Moving Truck Bottoms Out on West Chester Pike in Newtown Square

A moving truck bottoms attempting to make a right turn on West Chester Pike

NEWTOWN SQUARE–A Graebel Van Lines moving truck attempted to make a right turn onto West Chester Pike/Route 3 out of *Woodbrook House Apartments just before 6 p.m. but bottomed out, creating a huge rush hour back-up on Friday, November 18.

The long truck attempted to make a right out of the apartment complex onto the westbound lanes of West Chester Pike.

A man who lives next to the apartment complex but who asked not to be identified told Patch he has seen the problem before with long, interstate moving vans that are slow slung. Long haul moving trailers like the one that got stuck are designed to be close to the ground to make it easier to load and unload. "I told my wife when I saw him turn in there this morning, he's not going to make it out," the man told Patch.

At first, westbound cars and trucks were squeezing past the stuck truck in the left lane between the front of the truck and the median. Several wide vehicles, including pick up and box trucks, were bumping up on the median's curb to inch by.  Shortly after police arrived, westbound traffic was being forced to make a U-turn at Valley View Lane.

Drivers who did make it past the truck might have noticed the slogan in big letters along the side of the trailer: "Helping People Move Ahead...Worldwide."
