Newtown Fire Co. Responds to 52 Emergencies, Police Receive 807 Calls in May

Newtown police and fire gave their monthly statistics for May.

Total of 395 Fire Members, 276.6 Staffing Hours Recorded in May

For the month of May, the. reported responding to 52 emergencies in  and its neighboring towns. Since January, there have been a total of 278 emergencies that the fire company has responded to.

The 52 emergencies were broken down by time of day–from morning to night. There were 34 daytime (6 a.m. to 6 p.m.) emergencies that the fire company responded to in May; 7 in the evening (6 p.m. to 9:59 p.m.) and 11 during the night (10 p.m. to 5:59 a.m.).

By May, there was a total of 395 fire members, staff and personnel with a total of 172.6 staffing hours and no property loss for the month. In addition to staffing hours training exercises were conducted, jumping the number of total staffing hours to 276.6 hours.

According to the fire company, the training was held in-house and a total of 46 members participated in the drills with a total of 104 hours spent during these training sessions. The drills that were held in May included: rapid intervention team; master streams and LDH hook up to hydrants; crew meeting and clean up; and fire police standard operating guidelines.

In their monthly report, the fire company shared their thanks and support from the community and Newtown Board of Supervisors, and welcomed any visitors and volunteers to the Newtown Square Fire Co. 1.

Medical Emergencies, Business Building Checks Receive Highest Calls

Newtown Police Chief Dennis Anderson reported there were 807 service calls made for the month of May. The highest calls made were for business building checks (79 calls) and medical emergencies (75 calls).

There were six drug-related incidents (five for the posession or use of drugs/marijuana and one incident with drug sales) and four DUIs (driving under the influence) last month.

Another high number of calls were made from township ordinance alarms–70 in total for May. And 29 suspicious persons, vehicles, circumstances service calls were made and 40 traffic-related incidents occurred, resulting in warnings and citations.
