Newtown Police Receive Over 1,000 Emergency Calls in May

NEWTOWN SQUARE– Lt. Chris Lunn presented the public and township Board of Supervisors with the latest police log at a meeting on June 25.

The report includes incidents from May 1 to May 31. The total amount of service calls made during that time was 1,070.

In . In addition, police responded to 75 medical emergencies while last month they received 93 medical emergenices.

Another high number for service calls were for building checks. Last month, police responded to 87 (80 for businesses, seven for residences) while last year they responded to 79.

However, drug-related incidents in the township have gone down in comparison to last May. In the last month, there was only one drug-related incident involving the posession or use of marijuana. In May 2011, there were six drug-related incidents (five for the posession or use of drugs/marijuana and one incident with drug sales).

Another decrease seen was the number of township ordinance alarm calls. Last May there were 70 reported while last month there were 64. However, there was 17 reported towship ordinance calls involving animals, five reported soliciting/peddling incidents, and one solicitor/peddler charged.

There was also nearly the same amount of DUIs issued last month in comparison to last year. There were three DUIs reported last month while there were four in May 2011.

In addition, two deaths (unattended/non-traffic), three motor vehicle accidents involving deer struck, 12 motor vehicle accidents, 12 fire calls, and 39 9-1-1 hang-up calls were reported last month.
