Newtown Police Warn of Thefts from Cars

Do not leave anything of value in your car while it is unattended, police say.

The Newtown Township Police Department has investigated numerous thefts from vehicles from area parking lots, including Episcopal Academy's parking lot recently.

When valuables were left in plain view inside the cars, they were targeted, according to Newtown Police Chief Christopher Lunn.

The cars were all locked but windows were broken on each car to remove the valuables, according to Lunn, and the thieves stole all of the items in a matter of minutes.

Pocketbooks, briefcases, iPads, cash, credit cards, checkbooks, identification, jewelry, and designer sunglasses were among the stolen items, according to Lunn.

Having identification, credit cards and checks stolen can also lead to identity theft, according to Lunn.
