No Injuries in Llangollen Lane House Fire

A Saturday evening house fire left significant damage, fire officials say.

No one was injured in a house fire on the unit block of Llangollen Lane in Newtown Square Saturday night.

Newtown Square Fire Co. Chief Doug Everlof said the two homeowners arrived home at about 5:15 p.m. and 15 minutes later discovered smoke in the house, called 911 and escaped the house.

Newtown Square Fire Co. responded and had the fire extinguished within about 10 minutes, Everlof said. The scene was cleared by 8:15 p.m. Saturday.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The two-story, single family home saw significant damage from heat and smoke, Everlof said, but cathedral ceilings in the house helped so that the fire could not get enough heat to completely engulf the residence.

That area of Newtown Square does not have fire hydrants, Everlof said, so a special call for a Tanker Task Force, with 3,000 gallon water tank trucks, from Chester County were called to the scene however ended up not being needed.

A regular fire truck holds about 750 gallons of water, he said, and they were able to extinguish the fire.

Broomall, Edgmont and Rose Tree fire companies also responded to the scene along with RIT from Media and Manoa fire companies, and Newtown Township EMS and Police.
