Pedestrian Struck by Car on Winding Way, Seriously Injured

Newtown Police reported an elderly female was seriously injured in a pedestrian accident on Winding Way and West Chester Pike in Newtown Square on Feb. 1.

NEWTOWN SQUARE–Just around 10 a.m. on Wednesday morning, responded to a pedestrian accident that occurred by the intersection of Winding Way and West Chester Pike/Route 3 in Newtown Square.

Newtown Police Det. Joe Vandegrift responded to the scene and described the pedestrian as an "elderly female," who had been walking eastbound on West Chester Pike towards the intersection of Winding Way.

Vandegrift said the woman had stepped off the curb when she reached Winding Way, stepped back onto the sidewalk and then stepped back onto the street when a car struck her.

A white, Ford pick-up truck was northbound on Winding Way, seeing that the road was clear from traffic, the driver then proceeded to make a right turn onto West Chester Pike when the elderly woman had stepped off the curb, causing the collision.

Vandegrift said the truck was going "roughly five miles an hour."

The woman suffered significant facial injuries, according to Vandegrift, and was taken by Riddle EMS to Riddle Memorial Hospital for treatment. 

According to Vandegrift, no charges are pending at this time and investigations on this incident are ongoing.

This is the second pedestrian accident in Newtown Township that has occurred in the past five days. .
