Planning, Zoning Approve New Broomall Fire House

Broomall Fire Co. appeared before the Marple Township Zoning Board last week.

Broomall Fire Co. representatives appeared before the Marple Township Zoning Board last week to seek approval on variances on a new fire house proposal.

The two-story, proposed fire house would be built on the existing 10 North Malin Road property and increase to 24,000 square feet, over the current 10,000 square feet. They would not keep any of the existing building and the new building would be parallel with Malin Road.

The project is estimated to cost about $7 million and Broomall Fire Co. President Jim Capuzzi said they would hope to break ground in about two years.

The project required a few variances, including building setbacks, which were approved by the Zoning Board on Wednesday, according to the Delaware County Daily Times.

The preliminary plans were previously approved by the township planning commission as well, according to the Delco Times.

The next step is to secure funding through grants, fundraising and township dollars, Capuzzi said, however Marple Township Board of Commissioners have not yet agreed to provide any funds toward the project.
