Police Blotter: Heroin Overdose, Cars With Windows Smashed, More Thefts

Pediatrician's Office Ransacked, Burglarized

On Nov. 8 at 7:43 a.m., responded to inside the Main Line Health building at 1991 South Sproul Road for a burglary reported. Upon arrival, police spoke with a receptionist at Broomall Pediatrics, who told polie that while she was opening the office that day she observed one of the offices inside Broomall Pediatrics had been ransacked sometime overnight. Police discovered a large pile of papers and manila envelopes on the floor as well as a filing cabinet and desk drawers open in the office. One of the desk drawers appeared to be broken off, said police. According to the receptionist, she was one of the last employees to leave the office the night before in which the room was not disarrayed. Police are further investigating this incident.

Insurance Office Burglarized, $3 Stolen

On Nov. 8 at 8:01 a.m., police responded to Crawford & Co. at 600 Reed Road for a reported burglary. Upon arrival, police spoke with an office manager at the company who stated that his secretary discovered someone had broken in and went through her desk. According to the secretary, $3 in cash was taken but nothing else. Upon further investigation, police said they discovered pry marks on the door and some wood chips lying on the floor. Police are further investigating this incident.

Woman Steals $19.73 Worth of Items From Walmart

On Nov. 8 at 3:34 p.m., police responded to in the Marple Crossroads Shopping Center for a reported retail theft. Upon arrival, police spoke with the store officer who told police that a 22-year-old Philadelphia woman had concealed $19.73 worth of merchandise and exited the store. The woman was apprehended and transported to police headquarters. A background check revealed the woman had two prior retail thefts from 2007 and October 2011.

Heroin Overdose Leads to Cardiac Arrest

On Nov. 8 at 3:52 p.m., police responded to the 200 block of Morton Avenue for a reported cardiac arrest due to a drug overdose. Upon arrival, police found a 26-year-old man lying on his bedroom floor with his mother giving CPR. Police discovered three syringes, three bent spoons and numerous small blue packets labeled “CUPID” on top of the man’s dresser. Police said some of the packets were empty while others were still bundled and contained a white powdery substance in which police believed to be heroin. Medical emergency personnel arrived to the scene and were able to bring the man back to a conscious state, said police. The man was transported to Delaware County Memorial Hospital for treatment.

$2,000 in Cash Stolen From Parked Car in Front of Planet Fitness

On Nov. 8 at 6:09 p.m., police received a reported theft from a vehicle that was parked in front of the parking lot on Springfield Road. The owner of the vehicle told police that sometime between 4:20 p.m. and 6:05 p.m., someone had punched out the lock of the driver-side door of his plumbing work truck. The man told police that a black briefcase was taken which contained $2,000 in cash, a car dealer and plumbing licenses, two PA vehicle titles and one NJ vehicle title. Police are further investigating this incident.

Off-Duty Cop Nabs Home Depot Thief

On Nov. 8 at 6:35 p.m., police responded to front parking lot of the M.A.B building for a retail theft. Upon arrival, police discovered that an off-duty Upland police officer had the man detained in front of the M.A.B building with a shopping cart next to him. According to the incident report, the man told police he saw a shopping cart inside the store with no one around so he took it. The man walked out the entrance past a Home Depot employee who tried to stop him, said police. According to police, the man fled on foot with another man through the parking lot towards the M.A.B building. The off-duty Upland officer saw the two men run out in front of the door and heard the employee yelling after them, so the officer chased them down in his personal vehicle where he was able to detain the one man until police arrived, said police. The man was arrested and taken back to police headquarters. The total amount of stolen items totaled to $1,157.

Gym Bag Stolen From Car at Planet Fitness Parking Lot

On Nov. 7 a woman told police she parked her 2010 Jeep Wrangler in the parking lot of Planet Fitness from around 6:30 to 7 p.m. During this time, someone had popped her passenger side lock and stole a gym bag with numerous items inside, according to police.

Walmart Employee Reports Stolen Cell Phone in Break Room

On Nov. 6 at 9:27 pm., police were checking on Walmart in the Marple Crossroads Shopping Center when an employee reported to police a stolen cell phone. The employee told police that she left her T-Mobile MyTouch phone charging in the break room at approximately 4:45 p.m. When she returned at 6:10 p.m., the woman told police the phone was gone but the charger was still there. The store’s assistant manager told police he would be able to check the video footage of the area. Police are further investigating this incident. The phone is valued at approximately $350.

Family of Three Steal Scrap Metal From Dumpster

On Nov. 6 at 4:23 p.m., police were on patrol around the 500 block of South Park Way Boulevard when they observed a young girl, identified later as a 13-year-old, with a woman and man, later identified as her mother and father, reaching into the dumpster of Krando Metal, taking out scrap metal and placing the items into their vehicle. When police told the three to stop and addressed the “No Trespassing” sign above their heads, the father told police that they had come through the industrial park every Sunday to "scrap" and have never been stopped before. Police told the man that the family was on private property and was stealing from the business owner. The couple removed 16 pieces of angle iron and miscellaneous scrap metal from the back of their vehicle. Upon further investigation, police discovered more pieces of scrap metal in the back of their vehicle in which the man told police they were from the dumpster at The Iron Shop. Charges were filed.

Attempted Entering of Vehicle Parked in Planet Fitness Lot

On Nov. 5 at 9:40 a.m., police met with a victim, who told police that sometime between 7 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, his vehicle was damaged while he was inside Planet Fitness on Springfield Road. The driver-side lock had been damaged and the metal lock was bent and twisted to the extent that the key doesn’t fit all the way in, said police. According to police, entry to the truck was not made.

Driver's Side Windows of Cars Around Town Smashed

On Nov. 4 at approximately 12:03 a.m., police found a Subaru Outback with the driver’s window shattered while parked on the corner of South Park Way and Concord Road. Police are further investigating this incident.

At approximately 12:04 a.m., police located a Dodge Durango parked in the 2200 block of St. Paul with a shattered driver’s side window. According to police, the window appeared to have been struck with a bat or similar weapon. Police are further investigating this incident.

At approximately 12:06 a.m., police located a Buick Regal parked on the 2100 block of Mary Lane with a shattered driver’s side window. Police are further investigating this incident.
