Police Blotter: Brothers' Fight Leads To Arrest, Medical Emergency

Brothers' Quarrel Leads to Violent Fight

On  Aug. 22 at  5:48 p.m., responded to a home on Laurel Lane in Newtown Square for a reported medical emergency, possibly a knee fracture.

Upon arrival, police observed the victim on the floor of the office room lying face up. Police said he was crying and shaking in pain. The man stated that his 21-year-old brother entered the office area demanding the name of one of his brother’s friends, said police.

When his brother did not respond to his request, the 21-year-old brother began "slapping him in the head," said police. The brother tried to resist in a defensive manner but, at that time, according to the incident report, the older brother started punching his brother’s upper torso.

The victim began to try to walk away from the office area to avoid any further confrontation but as he was walking out, the 21-year-old brother violently pushed him into the bookcase and then threw him onto the floor, according to the incident report.

According to police, it was at that time that the victim had injured his right knee. When he started to scream for his mother, the brother told the victim to “shut up” and started to "stuff paper towels down his throat," stated the incident report.

Police said their mother was in the shower at the time when the fight broke out. When she heard screaming from one of her sons, the mother called police. The victim was transported to Bryn Mawr Hospital for evaluation and treatment. Newtown police arrested and charged the brother for simple assault and for harassment.

Woman Crashes Head-On Into Fire Hydrant and Utility Pole

On Aug. 17 at 12:30 p.m., police responded to the intersection of West Chester Pike/Rt. 3 and Rhoads Avenue involving a one-vehicle crash and two people. Two injuries were reported.

According to police, a 71-year-old woman of Broomall was driving a Toyota Matrix westbound on Rt. 3 approaching the intersection of Rhoads Avenue when she lost control of the wheel. The Toyota Matrix is equipped with hand controls to negate the use of foot pedals while in operation, said police.

The driver told police that the car was stopped at a previous red light and upon going forward, while using the hand controls, the car suddenly accelerated and collided into a fire hydrant and utility pole.

Both the woman and a passenger of the car suffered injuries and were transported to Bryn Mawr Hospital by Riddle Paramedics. 's Auto Services towed the car from the scene. A partial lane closure was conducted on the westbound lane of Rt. 3 for less than 30 minutes.

Driver Panics, Rams Car Into Parked Trash Truck

On Aug. 9 at approximately 10:45 a.m., police responded to  a two-vehicle car crash at the parking lot of . According to the incident report, an 87-year-old man from Media was driving his Rav4 into the parking lot of Gentile’s Market, following behind a large box truck that was also entering the lot.

Police said when the truck stopped to prepare to back into the loading dock at the market and activated the reverse beeper, the driver of the Rav4 apparently began to panic and hit the gas pedal striking a parked trash truck.

After the initial crash, the 87-year-old man again hit the gas while still against the metal entry step. The man stated that he was trying to park and became confused when the truck stopped, hitting the gas pedal in error. The man suffered minor injuries.
