Police Blotter: Church Thrift Shop Burglarized, Theft at Kid's Stop and Consignment Shop, and More

Wallet Stolen at Kid's Stop

On April 24 at approximately 9:45 a.m., received a report about a theft that occurred at the Kid's Stop, located on 20 Media Line Road, on April 23. According to the report, the woman told police her purse was left under her desk for a day in her classroom and told police she assured the wallet was still in her purse at 11 a.m. but reported that her purse was left unattended in the room from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m., according to the report. When she left for the day at 4 p.m., the woman told police she looked inside and her wallet was gone. Her Vera Bradley wallet–approximately valued at $25–included a driver’s license, car registration form, personal checks, medical cards, a Target card, $13 in cash and a pair of diamond earrings valued at $250.

Drunken Man Found on Floor of Restaurant

On April 21 at approximately 9:04 p.m., police responded to on 3207 West Chester Pike for a report of an intoxicated person. Upon arrival, police met with the intoxicated man, identified as a 33-year-old man from the unit block of Radnor Drive in Newtown Square, who was sitting down on the floor inside the restaurant and kept falling over on his right side, according to the police report. Police detected an odor of alcohol coming from the man while speaking to him. When asked if he had consumed any alcoholic beverages, the man indicated he had consumed several beers, according to the report. Police administered a breathalyzer test, which recorded a 0.17 percent BAC. The man was issued a non-traffic citation for public drunkenness.

Quilt Stolen From Washer at Laundromat

On April 16 at approximately 9 a.m., police received a report from an Upper Providence woman who reported a theft. The woman stated that on April 14 at 9 a.m., she went to the to put in a few load of laundry. The woman told police she had left to go to Gentile’s Produce Market for approximately an hour. When she returned to the Laundromat at approximately 10 a.m., the woman told police that she discovered someone had entered one of the washers she was using and removed her green, king size quilt and king size bed pad. The woman told police she searched the shop for both items but were unable to find them. The total value stolen was approximately $250.

Church Thrift Store Burglarized

On April 15 at approximately 12:42 a.m., police responded to the ’s thrift shop for a reported burglary. Upon arrival, police spoke to the complainant who told police that the show was secured at around 3:30 p.m. on April 14 and at 12:20 p.m. the next day she discovered the rear door in the thrift shop left ajar and money stolen from the cash register. Upon further investigation, police discovered that the burglar and forced open the rear door and forced open the register. Approximately $75 was reported stolen and a set of keys, valued at approximately $5. Police are further investigating this incident.

DUI on Rt. 3 and Ellis Avenue

On April 15 at approximately 7:17 p.m., police responded to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of West Chester Pike and Ellis Avenue. Upon arrival, police observed a Mercedes Benz with damage to the right rear that was sitting partially on the grass at the southeast corner of the intersection, according to the report. The driver was identified as Michael Mitros, 36, of Newtown Square. Upon speaking to Mitros, police detected an odor of alcohol coming from him, according to the report. Upon further investigation, police discovered Mitros had turned left from the westbound left-turn lane at the intersection and had intended to proceed southbound on Ellis Avenue. According to the report, a Mercury Mountaineer that was traveling eastbound in the left lane of West Chester Pike crashed into the Mercedes Benz due to Mitros failing to yield the right of way as the Mountaineer was approaching him from the opposite direction. Mitros was transported for Springfield Hospital for minor injuries. He was arrested and charged for DUI and vehicle turning left, or failing to yield the right of way for a vehicle.

Theft at Childrens Consignment Shop

On April 13 at approximately 3:25 p.m., police responded to consignment shop, located at 3707 West Chester Pike, for a reported theft. Police were able to locate the described woman  on the northeast corner of West Chester Pike and Clyde Lane. When police approached the woman, the woman told police, “I’ll just give you the stuff I took back,” and reached into her stroller to hand the items taken, according to the report. When police returned the woman back to the store, the woman removed a pair of green sweatpants, a white t-shirt, and three additional items of clothing when asked if there was anything else she had taken, according to the report. The total value stolen was $58.25. Upon further investigation, police also discovered a bottle of Clonazepam, Suboxon, and Methadone in her purse, which had another person’s name on all three bottles. The woman, identified as Jessica Kubach, 23, of East Landsdowne, was arrested and charged for prohibited acts of carrying a controlled drug/substance and retail theft.

Two Lax Nets Stolen at Elementary School

On April 13 at approximately 6:45 p.m., police responded to on Goshen Road for a reported theft. Upon arrival, police met with the president of the Marple Newtown Junior Tigers Lacrosse organization who told police that sometime in the last 24 hours someone had stolen two lacrosse nets that had been chained to the fence on the east side of the elementary school. According to the report, the man told police there were in total four lacrosse nets stacked together and chained to the fence with a padlock but later that evening, he discovered only two lacrosse nets with the lock missing. The two nets were approximately valued in total of $300.

Fight Over TV Cables Turns Physical

On April 12 at approximately 9:58 a.m., police responded to the apartment building on the 3400 block of West Chester Pike for a report of a domestic assault incident. Upon arrival, police met with the victim who stated that there was an argument with her male friend in reference to the TV cables. The argument became physical and the male friend had allegedly pushed the woman to the ground, causing her right knee and hand to strike the coffee table as she fell, according to the report. As a result of the fall, the victim suffered minor cuts to her right thumb and an abrasion to the right knee, stated police in the report. The 56-year-old Newtown Square man was arrested and charged for simple assault and harassment.
