Police Blotter: Dog Severely Injured in Home Burglary, More Home Burglaries and Baby Formula Theft

Camera Shows Woman Stealing Baby Formula

On Feb. 15, Marple police responded to CVS Pharmacy in the Lawrence Park Shopping Center for a reported theft. Upon arrival, police met with the store manager who showed them a store video from Feb. 13 of a woman taking several items of baby formula from a shelf. The store’s assistant manager told police they checked their receipts from the day’s business and no purchases of those items were found. The approximate amount stolen is $50-$100. Police are further investigating this incident.

Burglar(s) Take Loot of Jewelry and Electronics From Home

On Feb. 14 police responded to the 2800 block of Gradyville Road for a reported burglary. Upon arrival, police spoke with the homeowner who told police that no one was home between 1 p.m. and 4:10 p.m. The homeowner discovered the glass broken in the back door of the home, located inside a screened porch attached to the rear of the residence. According to police, it had appeared that someone had broken the glass and reached in to unlock the back door. Once inside, the burglar(s) had gone through various rooms of the home with items taken. According to the report, missing from the kitchen counters included an iPod, an iPad and a Kindle; missing from the master bedroom was a gold Brietling watch and a stainless/gold Cartier watch which had been stored in a dresser drawer; missing from the home office was an iPod and a pair of Bose headphones: missing from a third-floor bedroom was an iPod and an Apple Mac laptop. According to police, it appeared the burglar(s) had exited the back door as the other doors to the home were found secure when the homeowner arrived home. Police are further investigating this incident.

On Feb. 14 at approximately 5:56 p.m., while police were questioning neighbors about the recent burglary reported earlier that day on the 2800 block of Gradyville Road, police spoke with a homeowner on the 2900 block of Gradyville Road, who reported that she was also a victim of a recent burglary but did not report it. The homeowner told police that between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. on Feb. 6, someone had entered the home through an unsecured rear window. Once inside, the burglar(s) had taken a platinum diamond ring, a gold ring with diamonds and rubies, a gold necklace with diamonds, a platinum wedding band with diamonds, a gold diamond ring and two gold necklaces. He burglar(s) had also taken a box of hair dryers and hair straighteners that the homeowner had brought home to sell on eBay. Police are further investigating this incident.

Over $20,000 Worth of Jewelry Taken From Home

On Feb. 14 at approximately 8:07 a.m., police responded to the 3000 block of Lovell Avenue for a reported burglary. Upon arrival, police met with the homeowner who told police that she had met a man approximately three weeks ago when he was walking down the street and offered to shovel her driveway. The man offered to do other work around her home and on one occasion he came inside to measure walls for a future painting project. The homeowner stated that he was in her bedroom for a long period of time taking measurements. A couple of days later, according to the report, she noticed jewelry missing from several different locations. The woman called the man, who denied knowing anything about it. The man refused to do any more work for the woman, according to the report. The approximate value of the stolen jewelry is over $20,000. Police are further investigating this incident.

GPS Stolen From Vehicle

On Feb. 12, police responded to the 2400 block of Patricia Drive for a reported theft from a vehicle. Upon arrival, police met with the car owner who told police that sometime between Feb. 7 and Feb. 10, someone had taken a Garmin GPS from their unlocked vehicle that was parked in the driveway. The owner told police that they had last driven the vehicle and used the GPS on that Eusday and didn’t drive the vehicle until Friday when they had noticed the missing GPS from the center console compartment.

Driver's Side Mirror Smashed Out

On Feb. 10, police received a vandalism report to a 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt on the 200 block of Parkview Drive. Police met with the complainant who told police that sometime between 8 p.m. Wednesday and 8 p.m. Thursday someone had smashed out the driver’s side mirror.

Car Thief Takes Loose Change From Cars

On Feb. 10 at approximately 11:15 a.m., police responded to the 500 block of Collins Drive for a reported theft from a vehicle. Upon arrival, police met with the car owner who told police that sometime overnight someone had entered and stolen loose coins from his vehicle. The man reported that his vehicle was left unlocked in the driveway overnight. The approximate value of loose change stolen is $5. Police are further investigating this incident. A second theft from a vehicle was discovered at the home in which the homeowner’s truck was also left unlocked and parked in the driveway overnight. The vehicle was ransacked and approximately $5 in loose change was also taken from the truck. Police are further investigating this incident.

More Loose Change Stolen From Car

On Feb. 10 at approximately 6:39 p.m., police responded to the 700 block of Louise Drive in Springfield for a reported theft from a vehicle. Upon arrival, police met with the car owner who stated she left her vehicle unlocked overnight and when she returned to her vehicle in the morning, she noticed someone had entered her vehicle and went through her glove box and center console. Another vehicle was also entered at the same residence, in which approximately $5 in loose change was stolen from the front seat. Police are further investigating this incident.

Scrap Metal Theft on Park Way

On Feb. 7, police responded to Krando Metal Products on Park Way for a reported theft. Upon arrival, police met with an employee at the shop who showed police a scrap metal fenced-in storage area. The employee told police he discovered the day before that a section of the razor wire was cut and accessed around the fence area. According to the report, a 3-foot section of the razor wire was visibly seen cut and lying on the ground. The employee told police this was the second incident of the kind that had occurred at the shop. Police are further investigating this incident.

Dog Found Bleeding in Home Burglary

On Feb. 3, police responded to the 300 block of Lawrence Road for a reported burglary. Upon arrival, police met with the homeowner who told police that someone had been in her home and hurt her dog. In addition, two safe boxes were stolen from the home, according to the report. According to the report, police discovered the dog bleeding from its head and nose and its left eye partially closed. The homeowner told police she left the home approximately 6:45 a.m. that morning and her daughter left the home around 7:15 a.m. and found both the front door and storm door locked when they arrived home. The dog was transported to the Old Marple Vet for treatment. Police are further investigating this incident.
