Police Blotter: DUI, Middle School Fight, Theft in Apartment, Assault at DCCC

Overturned Car, One Injury in DUI Crash

On ­Feb. 27 at 2:45 a.m., Marple police reported to the southbound lane of Marple Road between Colet Circle and Anthony Avenue for an overturned vehicle involving three and injuring one.

The 23-year-old driver of Wynnewood was driving a small Ford truck heading south on Marple Road and failed to negotiate a curve around 416 Marple Road, said police.

The car then went off road hitting a raised embankment, only to roll over back onto Marple Road.

The Wynnewood driver was found driving under the influence and was charged with a DUI for a blood alcohol content of 0.16. The driver had two passengers with him, in which one was a 22-year-old from Havertown and was transported by Marple Township Ambulance Corps to Paoli Hospital. 

According to police, the northbound and southbound lanes of Marple Road were fully closed for approximately 1 to 3 hours and traffic was detoured at the time. The vehicle was towed from the scene for disabling damage.

Theft Inside Apartment, $200 Power Tool Missing

On March 1 at approximately 3:30 p.m., police reported to an apartment building off of Reed Road for a reported burglary within the apartment building.

According to police, the resident checked around his apartment as well as the garage and storage areas where access can be made from within the building.

The resident did not report anything missing in the apartment but when he checked the garage, police said, the resident noticed  n 18-volt DeWalt drill and case were missing.

The approximate value of the drill is $200. A DeWalt sander and case that was lying next to where the drill had been was not touched, said police.

Police are still investigating this incident.

Trouble at Elementary School Grounds, Fight Ensues

On March 1 at approximately 4:30 p.m., a fight broke out at Russell Elementary School’s soccer field. The fight brought about 25 spectators.

According to police, after viewing a recorded video of the incident, the mob was surrounding two 7th grade students who were involved in the fight.

Police said students in the area knew the fight was going to happen and one parent had driven two students to the fight fully aware of the fight because "she did not like one of the kids involved in the fight and hoped that he would get beat up."

According to police, this is the second fight at Russell Elementary School in the past several days involving Paxon Hollow Middle School students.

Police are still investigating this incident.

Drink and Punch Thrown at Man's Face

On March 2 at approximately 4:35 p.m., police reported to Delaware County Community College for a reported assault.

Upon arrival, police met the student who claimed the assault, who stated that he had a verbal altercation with another female student earlier that day and shortly after the verbal fight, two of the female’s friends confronted him in regards to the argument, said police.

The man stated that one of the females threw hot coffee in his face and another girl punched him in the face.

Police said although the man's face appeared to be red, no signs or smell of the hot coffee was observed.

After talking to one of the women involved in the assault, one woman stated the man had insulted their friend several times and admitted that she did throw her drink on the man, but said it was iced tea and not coffee.

The woman also acknowledged that the other woman had struck the man in the face.
