Police Blotter: Kawasaki Bike Stolen, Man Slashes Neighbor's Tires, More Thefts from Cars

Christmas Ornaments Stolen

On Dec 7 at 2:20 p.m., reported to at the Lawrence Park Shopping Center on 1991 S. Sproul Road for a reported theft.  An 81-year-old woman from Springfield told police that she purchased a few items from Home Goods and put her license and voided check into her bag of Christmas ornaments. She then proceeded to head over to to purchase a few items when she realized she had left her ID in the HomeGoods shopping cart, according to police. The woman said no one had turned in her items when she returned bck to HomeGoods to collect her items she had left behind in the cart. The two bags of Christmas ornaments were valued at approximately $75 and her Pennsylvania driver’s license at $36. Police are further investigating this incident.

Outdoor Christmas Lights Snipped

On Dec. 7 at 5:11 p.m., a woman from the 300 block of Columbia Place came into the police station to report two criminal mischief incidents. According to the woman, the two incidents had occurred sometime that day and the day before. The woman told police her Christmas lights ran alongside the driveway and the wires were cut in half, blacking out a section. The woman told police the cuts appeared to be clean cuts as if someone had used scissors or another sharp instrument. Police are further investigating this incident.

$1,500 Worth of Scrap Stolen

On Dec. 7 at 9:10 a.m., a theft was reported at Marinly Enterprises on 701 S. Parkway. According to police, the scrap was in a large dumpster in the driveway and was covered from sight. The scrap was apparently taken overnight with multiple aluminum gasket heads, valuing approximately $1,500, said police. The owner of the business told police the scrap was of significant weight and a large pickup truck would have been required to move the material. According to police, this was the second theft that week at Mardinley’s. The theft had occurred approximately 6 p.m. the night before to 8 a.m. that morning. Police are further investigating this incident.

Wallet Stolen at Marshalls

On Dec. 7 at 11:31 a.m., police received a call from a 79-year-old woman from Media for a reported theft. The woman told police her wallet was stolen out of her purse sometime the day before between 3 and 4 p.m., while shopping at s in the Marple Crossroads Shopping Center. The woman said she had entered the store and put her purse in a shopping car while she browsed. She told police no one approached her or distracted her while she shopped. In the stolen black leather wallet included several gift cards, two bank cards and $20 in cash.

Three Car Radios Stolen from Shed

On Dec. 6 at 8:33 a.m., police responded to the 500 block of Abbott Drive for a reported theft from a shed. The homeowner told police that his storage shed had been broken into overnight. Three car radios, believed to be JVC brand, were stolen, valuing approximately $200. According to police, the shed was located in the far rear of the backyard. A ladder was moved from one end of the yard to the other but nothing else was taken, said police. Police are further investigating this incident.

Kawasaki Motorbike Stolen from Shed

On Dec. 5 at 3:07 p.m., police responded to the unit block of Willowbrook Lane for a reported stolen motorbike. The 15-year-old resident told police that he had received the motorbike as a gift from his father and it was purchased three weeks ago on Craigslist. The family had just brought it home the day before and placed it in their unlocked shed in their fenced-in backyard after leaving it out in the front yard for about an hour, said police. The mother of the victim told police that they had two large dogs and would have heard them bark if someone had removed the bike while they were home. The motorbike is described as a green Kawasaki KX100 with “Monster” written on its side. The bike was valued at $750. Police are further investigating this incident.

Rock Thrown, Breaks Son's Bedroom Window

On Dec. 3 at 1:03 p.m., a homeowner on the 100 block of Cove Road reported a suspicious incident involving a rock thrown at one of his home windows. According to the homeowner, the rock was thrown at his son’s bedroom, damaging the window, and was found in his son’s bedroom. Police are further inestigating this incident.

62-Year-Old Woman Steals Shoes

On Dec. 3 at 4:35 p.m., police responded to for a shoplifter in custody. Upon arrival, police spoke with the store officer who told police that a 62-year-old woman from Philadelphia had concealed a pair of size 10 shoes, valued at $49.99, inside of a plastic bag, passed all cash registers of the store and exited the store without paying for the items.

Car Break-Ins at Marple Crossroads Shopping Center

On Dec. 2 at 9:12 p.m., police responded to the Marple Crossroads Shopping Center on 400 S. State Road in Springfield for a reported theft from a vehicle. Police located a green Honda Accord with a broken driver’s side window. The vehicle was parked in the lot behind . A black wallet containing a driver’s license, social security card, $50 in cash and a Tom Tom GPS unit were reported stolen. Police are further investigating this incident.

On Dec. 2 at 8:46 p.m., police responded to the Marple Crossroads Shopping Center on 400 S. State Road in Springfield for a vandalism report. Upon arrival, police spoke with the vehicle owner who told police that her car was parked in the rear lot while she was at work at PetSmart. The passenger’s side window was broken but nothing was reported missing from the vehicle. Police are further investigating this incident.

On Dec. 2 at 8:11 p.m., police responded to the Marple Crossroads Shopping Center on 400 S. State Road in Springfield for a reported theft from a vehicle. Upon arrival, police discovered a Honda Accord with the front passenger’s side window to the vehicle broken. The vehicle was parked in the rear lot. The owner of the vehicle reported her purse was missing from the vehicle, which included her work keys and a library book. Police are further investigating this incident.

On Dec. 2 at 7:48 p.m., police responded to the Marple Crossroads Shopping Center on 400 S. State Road in Springfield for a reported theft from a vehicle. The vehicle was parked in the rear lot near the Thruway Doors, according to police. The owner of the vehicle told police they had shopped for approximately an hour. Upon returning to their vehicle, the owner discovered the front passenger’s side window to their vehicle was broken. The owner discovered an old purse missing from the vehicle and noticed an empty TD Bank envelope in the center console, which was now laying on the passenger seat. Police are further investigating this incident.

Man Slashes Neighbor's Tires, Cops Find Loaded Weapons in Apartment

On Dec. 2 at 9:38 p.m., police responded to an apartment building off of Davis Avenue for a reported criminal mischief and an ongoing neighbor dispute that was occurring. The caller reported that his neighbor, Joseph Parnes, 41, of Davis Avenue, had slashed the tire on his vehicle in the parking lot. Another officer had met with Parnes and discovered blood on his right hand and a small pocket knife on him. A witness told police that he saw Parnes slash the tires. After further questioning with Parnes, he admitted to slashing his neighbor’s tires. Upon further investigation of Parnes’ apartment, police discovered two camouflage hunting bags, one of which contained a crossbow. A stainless steel revolver  and a camouflage shotgun were also discovered in the apartment, both of which appeared to be loaded with ammunition. Parnes then handed police a knife that he dug out of his bag in the closet that was used to slash his neighbor’s tires. Parnes was arrested and charged on three counts: making terroristic threats, criminal mischief/damage of property and harassment by physical contact.
