Police Blotter: Man Scams Salon, Dozens of Bread Rolls Stolen, Home Burglary Attempt

DUI Arrest on Mary Jane Lane

On March 4 at approximately 10:56 p.m., observed a Toyota traveling westbound on West Chester Pike/Rt. 3 and making a left turn from the westbound lane of Rt. 3 through a steady red light onto South Newtown Street Road/Rt. 252. Police were able to stop the vehicle on Mary Jane Lane and Rt. 252. Police approached the driver Ted Edwards, 60, of Avondale, in which a strong odor of alcohol was detected from Edwards, according to the incident report. Edwards told police he had two drinks that night. Police administered a breathalyzer test on Edwards, in which a 0.134 percent blood alcohol level was recorded. Edwards was transported to Riddle Memorial Hospital for blood withdrawal. Edwards was arrested and charged for DUI and for failing to follow traffic control signals at a steady red signal.

Attempted Burglary on Brookside Road

On March 1 at approximately 5:28 p.m., police responded to the 100 block of Brookside Road in the lower Saint Albans neighborhood of the township for a reported attempted burglary. Upon arrival, police met with the homeowner who told police that she had left her home that day at around 1:30 p.m. and secured her side door just off of her driveway and returned home around 5 p.m. to discover the door knob loose and what appeared to be pry marks on the door, according to the incident report. Police are further investigating this incident.

Man Scams Salon As Fire Prevention Worker

On Feb. 27 at approximately 4:55 p.m., police responded to at 3548 West Chester Pike for a reported theft. Upon arrival, police spoke with the salon owner who told police that a white male in his mid-40s wearing a navy blue sweatshirt, navy blue Dickies work pants and black sneakers had entered the business. According to the report, he was described as 6-foot-2-inches tall, approximately 240 pounds, clean shaven with dark hair and a mole or mark around his right eye and carried a receipt pad. According to the salon owner, the man claimed he worked for the County Fire Prevention out of Philadelphia and requested to see the business fire alarm and extinguisher. After a few minutes of checking, the man drafted a bill totaling to $198.35 and issued it to the manager in which she paid it in full in cash. While the man was there, the manager had the man call the owner. According to the report, the owner became suspicious when the man could not answer some of his questions. The man quickly left the store soon after. Police are further investigating this incident.

Dozens of Bread Rolls Stolen From Delivery

On Feb. 25 at approximately 6 p.m., police responded to at 3207 West Chester Pike for a reported theft. Upon arrival, police spoke with the restaurant managers who told police that last Friday night they noticed their bread delivery order was short. According to the report, they did not think anything of it but the night before, they received another bread delivery and noticed again the order came out short. The restaurant managers reviewed the surveillance tapes from the night before and showed police their findings. According to the report, at around 5:30 a.m., the delivery of bread was made and at 5:45 a.m. and a white Chevy van with no apparent markings pulled up in which one person got out of the car, took some bread from the delivery, got back into the car and left the scene. The estimated value of bread stolen is between $50-$75.  Approximately six to eight dozen rolls of bread were reported stolen.

Woman Found With Methadone and Marijuana in Car

On Feb. 23 at approximately 11:05 p.m., police observed a dark colored SUV traveling westbound on West Chester Pike/Rt. 3 making a left turn against a steady red light in order to travel south on South Newtown Street Road/Rt. 252. Police pulled the vehicle over and approached the driver, Catherin Rupertus, 41, of Aston. Rupertus immediately began telling police that she was sorry but her driver’s license was suspended, according to the incident report. When asked why her license was suspended, Rupertus told police that she had been arrested before for possession of heroine. According to the report, Rupertus also admitted that she had Methadone in her right hand. She showed police a crumpled paper towel that contained two white pills bearing the numbers 54 and 142 on one side, according to the report. While being apprehended by police, Rupertus also admitted that there was a little bit of marijuana in a cigarette pack in her purse. Police retrieved a small, plastic sandwich bag containing the alleged marijuana and an aluminum foil smoking device that contained burnt marijuana resident on it from an empty Pall Mall cigarette pack. In addition, Rupertus told police there was another Methadone pill and a half of one inside a brown envelope that was in a black case inside her purse. Rupertus was arrested and charged with three counts of prohibited acts or penalties, driving while license is suspended, driver required to be licensed and failing to follow traffic control signals at a steady red signal.

Man Hides Stolen Credit Cards, Licenses Underneath Bed Mattress

On Feb. 22 at approximately 11:02 a.m., Newtown police responded to the apartment complex on the 3500 block of Rhodes Avenue to assist the Delaware County Probation and Parole with recovered stolen items. Upon arrival, Newtown police spoke with the probation officers who explained they arrived to conduct a search in the apartment belonging to Sean Francis Connor, 33, of Newtown Square. While searching Connor’s bedroom, officers discovered several credit cards and drivers licenses belonging to a woman who lived in West Goshen in Chester County. In addition to the two PA drivers licenses, police also recovered an American Red Cross blood donation card, a T.J. Maxx credit card, a Discover credit card, a K-Mart rewards card and a Blockbuster rewards card. According to one of the parole officers, the cards were located under Connor’s mattress. Newtown police contacted the West Goshen Police Department who informed Newtown officers that the department had responded to a theft from a vehicle at the Wawa on Oct. 18, 2011. A black Coach purse was discovered missing with identification cards, credit cards and $73 reported stolen within the bag. Connor was arrested and charged with receiving stolen property and prohibited acts/penalties.
