Police Blotter: Naked Man Jumps in Front of Cars, Intruder Breaks Through Padlocked Door of Future Walmart Site and Thefts

Naked Man Seen Jumping From Bushes in Front of Cars

On June 11 at approximately 9:40 a.m., police responded to 456 South Park Way in Broomall to check a suspicious incident about a naked man jumping in front of vehicles on South Park Way, according to the incident report. The man, identified as a thin, light-haired, approxiamtely 20-year-old male hid in the bushes by 456 South Park Way and exposed himself when cars passed by, said police. According to police the same report was made on Memorial Day. Police were unable to make contact witht he male. Extra patrols were requested. Police are investigating this incident futher.

$140 Stolen From Concession Stand at Thomas Field

On June 17 at approximately 3:20 p.m., a member of Broomall’s Newtown Babe Ruth Little League at Thomas Field on 2480 Highland Avenue reported a theft from the concession stand with an approximate total value of $140 stolen, according to the incident report.

According to the member, the money was taken from a register that was stored in a locked cabinet inside the concession stand. The lock was not disturbed when the theft was discovered on Monday, said police. The thef was discovered by a board member, according to the incident report. The board member came into the concession stand on Monday at 10:30 a.m. to deal with umpire money that was also stored in the cabinet in bank envelopes, police said.

Approximately $750 in umpire money was also stored in that cabinet for the extensive amount of games that was coming up. Police said the board was aware of the value of $140 because $80 was in the register and about $60 was to be deposited after Sunday’s games. Police said the member returned around 3:30 p.m. when he noticed that all the money except two dollars was issing. However, police said, ironically, all the umpire money was accounted for.

The board member told police that he believes that the padlock and concession doors were locked but stated that it was possible that he forgot. The concession door locks upon closing and closes with little effort. Only a few board members have a key to the cabinet and more to the stand, said the board member.

A combination box is also available that holds a key to the stand, which is for the beverage and pretzel delivery persons. Police said the number of people with access to this code from either business may be larger in number than believed. Police observed the concession stand was not forced open. Police are investigating this incident further.

Two Incidents of Retail Theft at TJ Maxx

On June 21 at approximately 1:50 p.m., police responded to the TJ Maxx in the Lawrence Park Shopping Center for a reported theft. The loss and prevention officer of the store reported a male and a female were observed taking items from the store and were both still within the store. Marple police waited outside the store while the security officer had both of them in her office. A 17-year-old female of Broomall was identified and a 22-year-old male of Guttenberg, NJ. Both were transported separately to the police station. The 17-year-old girl's parents were notified and had their 19-year-old son pick her up. The man was processed and issued a non-traffic citation. The total amount of theft was $103.93.

On June 14 at approximately 1:10 p.m., police responded to a retail theft at TJ Maxx. Upon arrival, police met with the store officer, who had the thief in custody. The officer told police that she observed a woman conceal merchandise in her purse. The officer then observed the woman leave the store past all points of sale without paying for the merchandise. The officer stopped the woman outside the store on the walkway, according to the incident report, and then retrieved the stolen merchandise from the woman’s purse and returned her to the security office. The total value of stolen merchandise was $148.93. The woman was transported back to the police station. A non-traffic citation was issued and released.

Stamp Collectibles Stolen From Room at Broomall Manor

On June 19 at approximately 9:30 a.m., police responded to Broomall Manor on 43 Church Lane for a reported theft. The resident of one of the rooms told police that he was a member of a collectible stamp club, Mystic Stamp Co., of Camden, NY. He told police he is sent stamp proofs to review. According to the resident, if he does not wish to purchase those stamps, he is provided a paid-return envelope in which to send them back. That envelope and the enclosed stamps were removed from his room sometime overnight, according to police. The totaal loss was valued at $85. He also told police that his Saturday Philadelphia Inquirer paper was in his room the day before but all except the sports and crossword sections had been removed by someone. The resident said he spoke with the staff, who told him they didn’t know anything. “It was like talking to a wall,” he told police, according to the report.

Padlocked Door of Walmart Construction Site Broken Into

On June 17 at approximately 6:40 a.m., a site supervisor for the Walmart construction site at 400 South State Road in Springfield reported that he found an unsecured door adjacent to the Anthem Institute in the Marple Crossroads Shopping Center open. The door had a very minor padlock on the inside and it appeared that someone had forced their way into the site, police said. Police spoke to the site supervisor, who said he found this odd because on several nights last week, the makeshift bay doors were open and out of all the doors to the site, this was one of the most secure, he told police. According to the incident report, a pair of needle nose pliers were by the door. It is unknown if they were used or dropped there, said police. There were other valuable equipment inside but none were taken. The electricians did notice that about 15 pounds of scrap metal were missing. Police stated they will do their best to better secure the site. Police are investigating this incident further.

Bike Stolen in Front of Planet Fitness While Working Out 

On June 17 at approximately 2:45 p.m., two men came into the police station to report a stolen bike in front of the on Springfield Road in Broomall. The one man stated that he parked his bike in front of the Planet Fitness while he went in to work out, according to the incident report. He told police that he did notice two men walking in front of the business around 12:30 p.m. but didn’t think anything of it. One had a bike and the other did not. According to the incident report, the man said that his friend left about five minutes before he discovered the bike missing. The friend told him it was there at that time he left the gym. Police are investigating this incident further.
