Police Blotter: Offices, Pharmacy Burglarized, and Vandalism

Home Gets Shot at by BB Gun

On Jan. 4 at 1:37 p.m., responded to the 2600 block of Harding Avenue for a criminal mischief incident reported. Upon arrival police spoke to the homeowner who told police that he found more damages to his home from what appeared to be a BB gun, according to the incident report. The homeowner had already reported two broken windows and now one of his shutters on the front of his home had been shot and a small hole was created, said police. Police were able to locate the small brass BB on the front patio of the home. Police are further investigating this incident.

Car's Passenger-Side Window Smashed

On Jan. 3, police responded to the 200 block of Cranbourne Drive for a reported vandalism incident. Upon arrival, police spoke with the vehicle owner who showed them the smashed passenger-side rear window of his vehicle. According to police, the vehicle had been parked in his driveway since 4 p.m. that day. There appeared to be no evidence that indicated how the window got broken, according to the incident report.

Break-In at Dental Office

On Jan. 3, police responded to the at 1999 South Sproul Road in the Lawrence Park Shopping Center for a reported burglary.  Upon arrival, police made contact with the insurance coordinator who told police that someone broke into the office sometime over the weekend and had taken some cash. On Dec. 30, the office manager exited and locked the outside office door, according to the incident report. Police reported no employees were in the office from Dec. 31 to Jan. 2. On Jan. 3, the insurance coordinator had opened the door at approximately 8:10 a.m. and found three offices entered with front drawers pulled off and a metal file cabinet open but nothing reported taken. In addition, the front desk was entered and cash and change were removed from the desk. Police are further investigating this incident.

Man Steals Dunkin Donuts Tip Cup

On Jan. 3 at 10:31 p.m., police responded to the Dunkin Donuts inside for a reported theft. According to the incident report, at 10:28 p.m., an unknown white male, approximately 6-foot-2-inches in height, in their early twenties wearing a black hooded jacket had entered the Dunkin Donuts and stood in the doorway for a few minutes before pushing past a customer and grabbing the tip container from the countertop and ran out of the store. An employee said the there was approximately $30 in the tip container. Another employee informed police that they observed that the man had been at the gas station about 20 minutes prior to the incident and purchased $20 in gas at one of the pumps. According to an employee, it was the second time that the tip container had been stolen within the past two weeks, in which approximately $20 was taken in a similar fashion. Police are further investigating this incident.

Front Window of Home Shot at by BB Gun

On Jan. 3 at 5:33 p.m., police responded to the 2600 block of Harding Drive for a reported vandalism incident. Upon arrival, police spoke with the homeowner who stated that his front picture window was shot at with a BB pellet. The homeowner told police two days ago his upstairs window was also damaged. Police are further investigating this incident.

Christmas Lights Ripped Out

On Jan. 2 at 9:21 p.m., police responded to the 2200 block of Clover Drive for a criminal mischief incident. Upon arrival, police spoke with the homeowner who stated that sometime after 5 p.m. that day, someone had ripped out a strand of lights from Christmas decorations.

Health Care Office Burglarized

On Jan. 2 at 12:43 p.m., police responded to office at 1999 South Sproul Road in the Lawrence Park Shopping Center for a reported burglary. Upon arrival, police met with the building owner who stated that sometime over the weekend someone had entered the office. According to the incident report, the burglar had entered two offices within the suite, in which an employee discovered the broken door and open drawers at 11:40 a.m. that morning. Police are further investigating this incident.

Mercedes Benz Damaged, Front Windshield Smashed

On Jan. 1 at 1:19 p.m., police responded to the parking lot of the for a vandalism report. Upon arrival, police spoke with the complainant who stated that sometime overnight someone had vandalized his friend’s Mercedes Benz, which he was given permission to drive, and had parked it in the horseshoe parking lot of the apartment complex. Police observed that the vehicle’s front windshield had been smashed with an unknown object, which caused the majority of the windshield to spider. In addition, police observed numerous dents and scratches on the driver and passenger sides of the vehicle. Police are further investigating this incident.

Car's Front Windshield Smashed at Diner

On Jan. 1 at 4:35 a.m., police responded to the for a criminal mischief incident. Upon arrival, police met with the owner of a vehicle and an employee at the diner's parking lot, who told police that someone broke the windshield of his vehicle that night while he worked his shift at the diner. The man told police that he parked his vehicle in the rear of the diner at 7 p.m. Upon returning to his vehicle at the end of his shift, the employee discovered his vehicle windshield to be shattered, according to the incident report. Police observed a piece of a cement block lying on the ground in front of the vehicle that appeared to have been used in the incident.

Man Steals $25 Headphones

On Dec. 31 at 5:05 p.m., police responded to the on 400 South State Road in the Marple Crossroads Shopping Center for a retail theft incident. According to the incident report, the store’s officer had observed a male remove the packaging from a pair of headphones and concealed them in his pant pockets. The man appeared to purchase several other items and passed all pointes of sale without paying for the $25 headphones. He was placed under arrest for retail theft.

$700 Worth of Damages to Marple Ford Vehicle

On Dec. 30 at 9:40 a.m., police responded to the on 3055 West Chester Pike for a reported criminal mischief incident. Upon arrival, police spoke with an employee who told police that he discovered a broken windshield and a dent in the roof of a 2012 Ford Transit Connect Van, which was parked in their auxiliary parking lot at 3071 West Chester Pike. The employee told police that the damage was discovered on Dec. 29 at approximately 10 a.m. but was unsure as to when it occurred. The damage to the vehicle was estimated at approximately $700. Police are further investigating this incident.

Space Heater Causes Home Fire

On Dec. 29, police responded to the 400 block of Candlewood Road for a house fire. Upon arrival, police spoke with the homeowner who stated that he was alerted to the problem by his smoke alarm sounding in the den. The man said his wife had turned on the space heater around 5:30 a.m. before she went to work. When the man went down to the den, he found flames shooting up from the space heater. The man was able to extinguish the fire and move the space heater outside. Broomall Fire Co. was on location to investigate the incident.

Graffiti Painted on Trucks

On Dec. 28, police responded to TireVan on 575 Abbott Drive for a reported criminal mischief incident. Upon arrival, police spoke to an employee who told police that sometime between Dec. 23 and Dec. 28, someone had written graffiti on two of their trucks that were parked in the lot along I-476. Police are further investigating this incident.

Woman Steals $528 Worth of Items While Shopping With Children

On Dec. 28, police responded to on 1991 South Sproul Road in the Lawrence Park Shopping Center for a retail theft incident. Upon arrival, police spoke with the store officer who told police that she observed a woman selecting a $179.99 Michael Kors purse, two cashmere sweaters valued at $99.99 and $79.99 and a Cavalli dress valued at $199. The woman then proceeded to the children’s department where she concealed these items in her large black purse. The woman went to the cash registers to pay for some of the items but not for the concealed merchandise in her purse. The woman then concealed a pair of black leather gloves valued at $49 in a TJ Maxx bag before leaving the store with $527.97 of total value merchandise stolen. The woman was stopped and arrested. According to the incident report, the woman had a 10-year-old and 5-year-old with her at the time of the incident. Lynda Marie Slaughter was charged and arrested for retail theft.

Cash, Narcotics Stolen From Pharmacy

On Dec. 24 at 3:30 p.m., police responded to Sproul Pharmacy in Springfield for an alarm activation. Upon arrival, police observed the plexi glass to the side door partially off its frame, according to the incident report. Police observed the drawer to the cash register was open with no bills inside, and coins were only left in the drawer. The owner of the store told police that the door had not been like that when he left at 12 p.m. that afternoon. The owner told police that $50 in cash and some quarters were missing from the cash drawer and a shelf containing narcotics was empty, according to the incident report. Police are further investigating this incident.
