Police Blotter: Public Drunkenness, Missing Guns From Home, Attempt of Car Break-In, Medical Emergencies and More

Shirtless, Screaming Man Issued Citation For Public Drunkenness

On June 9 just before 5 p.m., Newtown police responded to on South Newtown Street Road where a 40-year-old man from Media was seen intoxicated, staggering around and screaming at passing vehicles, according to the incident report.

According to police, the man was last seen wearing tan shorts, no shirt, walking around on the northbound and southbound lanes of Newtown Street Road as well as by the brick light post at the south entrance of Newtown Grill.

As police approached the man, he was consuming a beverage from a silver can labeled Steel Reserve, which was later identified as a “high gravity lager” with 8.1 percent alcohol. Police asked the man where he was coming from and where he was going. According to police, the man told them that he just got off the SEPTA 118 bus and was en route to Media via the ankle trolley.

While speaking with the man, police detected a very strong odor of alcohol coming from the man and requested for the man to perform a sobriety test. As a result of failing the test, the man was arrested for public drunkenness and transported to headquarters where he was issued a citation. According to the incident report, he had a blood alcohol content of .354 percent. Newtown police transported the man to Rose Tree Park where they met Media police, who then helped transport the man to his home. 

10-Year-Old Girl Has Difficulty Breathing at Garret Williamson Pool

On June 10 at 1:36 p.m., police were dispatched to the Garret Williamson property on Bishop Hollow Road for a medical emergency. According to the incident report, police were told that a 10-year-old girl of Springfield was having difficulty breathing by the pool area.

The girl was removed from the pool by staff and treated by Newtown Township EMS and transported to Paoli Hospital for medical evaluation. Police spoke with the lifeguard on duty who told police he observed the girl jump feet first over the steps into the shallow part of the pool. The cause was classified as unknown injury to her body. Both parents were on location at the scene.

Foreclosed Home on Martins Road Sees $150,000 in Damages

On June 10 at 2:20 p.m., police were dispatched to 4 Martins Road for reported vandalism to the property. On arrival, police met with a Re/Max real estate agent, who stated that he was checking the property on that day, according to the incident report. The agent advised police that the residence is in foreclosure and that the previous owner was evicted around May 10.

Upon further investigation of the home, police discovered that the master bedroom sink had been left running for an extended period of time and that the water flowed throughout the property. According to the incident report, damage was sustained to the walls, floor, ceiling and basement areas as well as extensive mold damage. The real estate agent estimated the total damage to be valued around $150,000. Police noted that no forced entry was observed to the property.

Mudd Run Participant Has Trouble Breathing

On June 11 at 10:50 a.m., police were dispatched to the 4400 block of West Chester Pike at the Mudd Run event to assist Newtown Township EMS with a patient having trouble breathing, possibly with chest pain, according to the incident report. The Philadelphia man was transported to Riddle Memorial Hospital for medical evaluation. According to police, they were later notified that the man was treated for a heart attack and remained in the ICU for a couple of days.

Husband on Protection From Abuse Court Order Hits Wife's Car

On June 12 at 7:10 a.m., police responded to the Florida Park neighborhood on Fairview Avenue for reported vandalism to a motor vehicle. On arrival, police met the woman, who stated that around 7 a.m. on June 12, she discovered that the driver-side windshield and mirror to her vehicle had been damaged.

The woman told police that around 12:30 a.m. on June 12, she observed her husband’s vehicle drive up the driveway and then leave before she heard a loud bang at the bottom of the driveway, according to the incident report.

She described the truck as a white truck with the lettering of KDJ on the side. She told police that she had an active Protection For Abuse court order against her husband, bud did not contact police about the incident/violation because of the children.

Police contacted the husband at around 5:10 p.m. that day and advised him of the information that was contained in the investigation from his wife. Police advised him to follow the instructions of the court order and to address all issues at court. The husband wanted it noted that his children were left alone, according to the incident report.

Minors Play With Fire on Rooftop of Wawa

On June 12 at 3:10 p.m., a Mudd Run representative was flagged down by a store manager in regards to some disorderly juvenile males vandalizing the property, according to police.

According to the incident report, the Mudd Run representative told police he last saw the juveniles running into the wooded area toward the rear of the property. Police spoke with the Wawa manager, who stated that a woman told him that a couple juveniles were on the roof and playing with fire.

The manager went to investigate and discovered minor damages to the air conditioner and orange crates. The estimated damage was $50. Det. Joseph Vandegrift stopped two juvenile males fitting the description. Both boys admitted to being at the Wawa and were identified and released. Officers notified their parents.

Man Seen Trying To Open Car Door With Hanger on Porsche Lot

On June 12 just before 3:40 p.m., police responded to the dealership at 4005 West Chester Pike for a report of an attempt to enter one of the vehicles. According to police, a man was observed on the used car lot attempting to enter a vehicle with a coat hanger. Prior to police arrival, the anonymous complainant relayed that the man was possibly driving a black Mitsubishi and was now traveling west on West Chester Pike.

Police located a vehicle fitting the description at West Chester Pike and Rock Ridge Road in Edgmont Township where they conducted a traffic stop. The driver told police that he had been on the lot looking at a Chevrolet Corvette but had not been attempting to enter the vehicle.

According to police, the driver appeared to be annoyed initially until it was explained that police were investigating an incident and received a complaint that he was on the lot while the business was closed. A National Crime Information Check was conducted and came out negative. The man's driver’s license was also valid and he was released.

Resident Reports Missing At Least Two Guns

On June 13 at 8 p.m., police spoke with a homeowner on Caley Road who informed police that her son was missing at least two guns that she thinks are registered in his name, according to the incident report. The woman stated that the guns have been missing for at least one year and her son does not remember what he did with them due to his addiction to prescription medication. The woman stated that he was currently at a rehabilitation center in Georgia and would ask him all the pertinent information that police had requested, including the make, model and serial number. Police are still investigating this incident.

Man Provides Alcohol to Minors at House Party

On June 15 at approximately  12:30 a.m., police responded to a home on Rockwood Road for a report of a loud party outside of the home. Upon arrival, officers observed two white males running from the home towards the rear. At the front door of the home, police were met by a 21-year-old resident of the home, who told police he invited two friends to the house to join him in consuming an alcoholic beverage.

According to the incident report, the man told police that he had a bottle of vodka and when his friends showed up, "the party got out of hand," said the man. Upon entering the home, police stated that the kitchen was a "disaster" and observed there was spilled alcohol on the floor and kitchen  counter-top. Police said there was a large plastic bottle of vodka on the counter which was completely empty. The man told police the vodka was his. Police contacted the man's father and the owner of the home and advised him of the incident. Police told the father his son would receive a citation in the mail.
