Police Blotter: Ridley Park Man Charged for DUI Tries to Flee Scene and Various Incidents of Theft

In this week's incidents in Marple, several occurrences of theft were reported around the township as well as a man charged for DUI.

$150 Bicycle Stolen From Resident's Garage

On April 15 at approximately 5:20 p.m., Marple police responded to Pine Valley Road for a theft report. The resident there stated that her husband had come home from work and was doing some yard work in the rear portion of the yard at around 2:30 p.m. and had left their garage door open, according to the incident report.

In the incident report, the woman states that when she arrived home, she noticed a bike helmet on the neighbor’s lawn. She then noticed that her daughter’s bike had been moved and her son’s bike was missing from the garage.

The woman also stated that their dogs were excessively barking at one point and when the husband looked out in the front yard, he saw an unrecognizable juvenile standing in the street in front of their home.

The bike is a silver and red NEXT aluminum bike valued at $150. Police are still investigating this incident.

Stolen Bank Card Used For Shopping Spree

On April 15 at approximately 7:40 p.m., a woman came into the Marple police station to report her TD bank card was stolen. In the incident report, the woman stated that she was at the Marshall’s in the Marple Crossroads Shopping Center at around 5 p.m. when she believed she dropped the card on the dressing room floor.

When the woman arrived home, she told police that she had contacted the bank only to discover numerous charges had already been made using the card. The charges were as follows: $119.90 and an additional and $37.05 at the DSW Shoe Warehouse in the Marple Crossroads Shopping Center; $37.09 at Gamestop in the Marple Crossroads Shopping Center; $69.97 at Finish Line in the Springfield Mall; $54 at GAP in the Springfield Mall; and $169.50 at Macy’s inthe Springfield Mall.

The total amount charged on the card was $487.51. A video footage from Gamestop showed a woman in her thirties enter the store and purchase a Nintendo DSI game. The woman had long, dark hair and was wearing a brown leather jacket, blue jeans and appeared to be carrying DSW bags. Police are still investigating this incident.

Home Depot Employee Caught Helping Two Women Steal

On April 19 at approximately 4:10 p.m., police responded to the Home Depot on Reed Road for a reported theft. Julius Allen, of Landsdowne, an employee at the store, was observed at a cash register handling two women customers, and only scanning but a " scant few of the items within their carts," according to the incident report.

In addition, Allen also provided a $50 discount to one of the customers. As the customers were stopped, according to the incident report, they verbally gave store employees a hard tme when asked for their store receipts.

Police stated that there were no receipts for the items within their carts. Allen escorted both women out of the store after "under-ringing" them both, according to police. A store video footage was captured of the entire incident.

The total loss was valued at $344.10. This was Allen's first criminal arrest.

Driver Crashes Into a Tree, Tries to Flee Scene

On April 23 at approximately 12:25 a.m., Marple police responded to Pennview Avenue for a reported car crash with a tree.

Bryan Cordy, 29, of Ridley Park was traveling east on Pennview Avenue and attempted to negotiate a slight downhill curve in the road, according to the incident report.

Cordy struck the curb in front of 2884 Pennview Avenue, went over the front lawn of the home, said police, and then stopped after crashing into a tree at the home of 2882 Pennview Avenue.

Police stated in the report that Cordy then proceeded to exit the vehicle and walk away from the scene. Cordy was found several minutes later after the crash was reported walking on Parkview Road.

His Pontiac Grand Am was towed from the scene. Cordy was charged for driving under the influence. Blood tests were given.
