60-year-old Woman Drives Into Curb, Fire Hydrant, Utility Pole

On Feb. 20 at approximately 11 p.m., police responded to West Chester Pike and Rhoads Avenue for a reported car crash.

According to police, a 60-year-old Darby resident driving a PT Cruiser was heading west in the right-hand operating lane of Route 3/West Chester Pike between Bryn Mawr and Rhoads avenues when she drifted to the right, hitting the curb, striking a fire hydrant and finally crashing into a utility pole.

The woman told police she was distracted by the light. Police said the woman had corrective lenses restriction checked off on her license but told police that she was wearing her eyeglasses at the time of the collision.

She was transported to Bryn Mawr Hospital for pain in the chest area by Newtown Township Ambulance Corps. Police said the right head lamp of the PT Cruiser was damaged upon impact of the accident and was towed from the scene.

Woman Involved in Domestic Fight Physically Attacks Police

On Feb. 21 at approximately 9:30 p.m., Newtown police arrived on scene at Summit Avenue in Newtown Square for a domestic fight.

Upon arrival, police said they found the husband waiting for police on the front porch and could hear a woman screaming to the street. The woman was screaming obscenities and cursing for someone to get out of her house, said police.

According to police, several attempts were made to calm the woman down inside her home, in which she continued to yell and act very disorderly while the officers were present.

Police said the woman was on her bed and started to approach one of the officers that led police to believe she was about to assault the officer. One of the officers stepped in between the woman and the officer in which the woman ran right into the officer, police said.

The woman continued to push this officer, said police, even after being told several times to stop. The woman waved her hands and screamed even louder and police grabbed her left arm to prevent her from striking an officer, according to police.

After police were able to calm her down, they instructed her not to have any contact with her husband, in which she acknowledged but as police were leaving the home, she pushed one officer from behind, police said.

After several attempts to get the woman to relax, police said the woman pushed the officer again while trying to force her way past him in an apparent attempt to physically attack another officer.

The 48-year-old Newtown Square woman was arrested for aggravated assault, attempted simple assault, harassment dealing with a strike, shove, kick, etc., and lewd language.
