Police Blotter: Thefts From Homes, Stores and More

$3,000, Gift Cards Taken From Home

On Feb. 28 at approximately 7:22 a.m., responded to the 500 block of Warren Boulevard for a reported theft. The homeowner told police that he discovered some change missing from a pouch as well as $1,700 that was stored on top of his bureau that was missing and an additional $1,300 that was kept in a shoebox in his closet. Police observed the back door of the home, which leads into the lower area sunroom, was left unlocked and appeared to be the only entry point. According to the report, it appeared that whoever took the cash knew exactly where to look, as the shoebox of cash was located in the back of a closet. In addition, two gift cards were also reported stolen. Police are further investigating this incident.

Walmart Employee Caught on Tape Stealing

On Feb. 28 at approximately 5:30 p.m., police responded to in the Marple Crossroads Shopping Center for a reported shoplifter in custody. Upon arrival, police were told that a female employee had entered the store’s restroom with merchandise. According to the report, another employee heard the employee remove the hangers and place them in the trash bin. The female employee then left the restroom with the merchandise concealed in a black backpack. A store video surveillance camera showed the employee enter the restroom with the merchandise and leaving without it. The employee was stopped and the merchandise was recovered. According to the report, the hangers were found in the trash can. The total amount of the concealed merchandise is valued at $76.26. The employee was arrested was cited for first-time retail theft.

Silver Items, Electronics Taken From Home

On Feb. 28 at approximately 4:15 p.m., a woman called to report items missing from her home off of the unit block of Berkley Road that were discovered on Feb. 25. According to the report, the woman discovered silver jewelry, silver flatware, a silver tea set, silver candlesticks and silver picture frames missing along with an HP laptop, a Garmin GPS and a Panasonic video camera. Police are further investigating this incident.

$1,200 Worth of Scrap Metal Stolen

On Feb. 23, police responded to on 505 S. Parkway Boulevard for a reported theft discovered. Upon arrival, police spoke with the complainant who told police that the evening prior on Feb. 22 at approximately 11:55 p.m., a dark colored Ford Windstar minivan that was operated by a white male was observed entering the parking lot and parked between two Krando work trucks. The man then exited his vehicle with a white five-gallon bucket and walked over to the dumpster at which time he climbed into the dumpster, according to the report. The man filled the bucket with miscellaneous scrap metal valued at approximately $200. After filling the bucket, the man was observed walking back to his vehicle and pulled out of the lot at approximately 12:15 a.m.

On Feb. 22 at approximately 8:51 a.m., police responded to Krando Metal for another theft reported. Upon arrival, police spoke to the complainant who told police that someone had taken a large amount of scrap metal from the dumpster on their parking lot on Feb. 20 at approximately 10:23 p.m. A video surveillance camera on the property captured a white male, operating a dark colored Ford Winstar minivan, walk in and around the dumpster area of the property for approximately 30 minutes. The theft of the scrap metal stolen is valued at approximately $1,000. Police are further investigating this incident.

Bass Pedal Stolen From College Classroom

On Feb. 23, police responded to (DCCC) on 901 South Media Line Road for a reported theft. Upon arrival, police spoke with the victim who told police that sometime between 12 p.m. on Feb. 22 and 11 a.m. on Feb. 23, someone had removed a Tama Iron Cobra double bass pedal for a drum set from room 3292 of the academic building on the DCCC campus. The approximate replacement cost is $205. Police are further investigating this incident.

Tire Slashed Again For Car Owner

On Feb. 22 at approximately 11 a.m., police were flagged down by a resident on the 2100 block of South Sproul Road for a reported criminal mischief incident. According to the report, the woman told police that she had another tire slashed on her vehicle that was parked in her driveway. The woman told police the incident has been going on for over a year with many incidents of the same kind.

Woman Wearing Panera Uniform Involved in Retail Theft at T.J. Maxx

On Feb. 21, police responded to the on 1991 South Sproul Road in the Lawrence Park Shopping Center for a reported retail theft. Upon arrival, police met with the store officer who told police that they had observed a woman wearing a Panera Bread uniform inside the T.J. Maxx store. The woman was observed selecting numerous articles of clothing, taking them off the hangers and concealing them in her purse. The woman also selected two bottles of shampoo and an oil treatment which she concealed inside her jacket pocket. The store officer observed the woman pass the cash registers without making any attempt to pay for the merchandise and exit the store. The woman was apprehended outside the store. The stolen merchandise is valued at $59.94. The woman was arrested and was issued a citation fora first-time retail theft.

$400 Fraudulently Withdrawn From ATM

On Feb. 17 at approximately 5:55 p.m., police received information about a reported theft of $400. The complainant told police that at approximately 10:21 a.m., she went to in the Lawrence Park Shopping Center and made a $20 withdrawal from the outside ATM machine. The woman stated that later in the day she had attempted to use her card and realized that it was missing, according to the report. The woman contacted the bank in which she was told that someone had made a $400 withdrawal minutes after she made her initial $20 withdrawal. Police are further investigating this incident.
