Police Chase Driver, Driver Hits Building

NEWTOWN SQUARE–On July 21, at approximately 12:30 a.m., report they observed a car traveling eastbound in the 3900 block of West Chester Pike and saw the vehicle abruptly strike the curb, bounce back into the right travel lane and continue to proceed eastbound swerving into the shoulder area.

Police said the driver, Randy Dunlap, 51, of Landenberg, PA, made a careless right turn into the exit way of the Pizzeria Uno’s parking lot, while running over the curb.

According to police, Dunlap then began to speed through the parking lot behind the restaurant where police observed restaurant employees walking to their vehicles.

Despite turning on the police emergency lights, police said Dunlap refused to stop and continued driving carelessly through the occupied parking lot around the CVS, heading toward West Chester Pike.

Through a traffic device, police were able to record Dunlap's speed at 97.5 mph in a 55 mph zone. Dunlap continued westbound on West Chester Pike toward Edgmont Township and made an abrupt right turn on West Chester Pike at Crum Creek Road entering the Marville shopping center in Edgmont.

According to police, Dunlap entered the Regal Cinemas parking lot and proceeded along the right side of the building, heading to the rear of the building.

Police said he then made a sharp left turn into the alleyway behind the building striking the curb, and then lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the northeast corner of the building. According to police, Dunlap immediately exited the vehicle in an attempt to run when police ordered him at gunpoint to stop and lay on the ground.

Dunlap was arrested and charged with DUI, fleeing or attempting to elude an officer, going above maximum speed limits, careless driving, reckless driving, emerging from alley driveway or building, driving on roadways laned for traffic and driving on divided highways, failing to abide to traffic-control devices, driver required to be licensed, driving while operating privileges suspended or revoked, and recklessly endangering another person.
