Police Investigate Rash of Contractor Van, Tool Thefts

Police across Delaware County are working together to catch thieves, who are targeting high-priced contractor equipment and tools.

Delaware County police departments are working together to find thieves who are targeting contractor equipment, tools and vehicles.

On Aug. 29, Marple Township Police responded to the area of Abbott Drive in the Lawrence Park industrial park where two contractor vehicles were stolen and expensive tools and equipement were stolen from several others, according to Marple Police.

Four different companies—Feehan Plumbing, WM Henderson Plumbing, AJT Electrical Contractors and Sciulli HVAC—were impacted in those thefts, according to Marple Police.

At least 18 work trucks were targeted across Delaware County in recent weeks, including Marple, Newtown, Aston, Upper Darby and Haverford townships, according to the Delaware County News Network.

Investigators from across the county are now working together to catch the thieves.

"These are brazen professionals who know what they’re doing,” Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood told the Delaware County News Network.

Chitwood told the Delco News Network that the estimated loss to local businesses, across the county, could be more than $500,000.
