Police Make 2 DUI Arrests

The drivers in the two separate incidents both failed field sobriety tests, police say.

The following information was supplied by Newtown Township Police. Any arrests or charges mentioned do not indicate guilt or conviction.

 

DUI—200 block of S. Newtown Street Road at about 2:14 a.m. on March 23. Police observed a black Lincoln Navigator making a U-turn in the area of the Casale Restaurant and decided to catch up to the vehicle in case they were lost or needed assistance, according to the report. At a red traffic light, the Navigator failed to stop at the painted stop bar on the roadway and nearly entered the intersection, according to the report, and was slowly rolling forward into the intersection against the red signal. When the light turned green the Navigator did not go and sat stationary for a few seconds before proceeding, according to the report.

As it traveled north, the Navigator allegedly swerved to the left and crossed over the southbound lane of travel and continued to swerve, according to the report. Police stopped the vehicle and the driver's eyes appeared glassy and her speech was slurred, according to the report. When asked, the driver, a 46-year-old Collegeville woman, told police she had three alcoholic beverages earlier, according to the report. When asked if she was lost, the passenger said yes but the driver said no, according to the report. The driver performed field sobriety exercises and recited the alphabet but when she got to "G" she mixed up several letters, according to the report. She also failed to walk heel-to-toe on a line when she stepped off the line and staggered into the roadway, according to the report. The woman was arrested and charged with DUI and careless driving.

DUI—3300 block of West Chester Pike at 12:16 a.m. on March 10. Police were driving directly behind a black Ford Mustang and observed it crossing over the solid white fog line several times and weaving within the outer lane of travel, according to the report. Police stopped the vehicle and the driver's reactions apeared slow and methodic when he showed his license and registration, according to the report. The driver, a 30-year-old Upper Darby man, was asked if he had consumed any alcoholic beverages and the man told police he had, about an hour earlier, according to the report. The man performed several field sobriety tests and police decided to arrest the man in connection with DUI, according to the report. The man was taken to Springfield Hospital to have blood drawn and he was processed and released to a responsible adult, according to the report.
