Police: Man Takes Basketful of Red Bull Energy Drinks

A 30-year-old Philadelphia man was seen fleeing from the Newtown Square Acme with a basketful of Red Bull Energy drinks on June 18.

NEWTOWN SQUARE–On June 18th at approximately 4:40 p.m., Newtown police responded to the in the Newtown Square Shopping Center for a reported theft.

While responding to the incident, police received information of a man who was last seen running from the Acme toward the rear of , across the street of the shopping center.

According to the incident report, the man was observed carrying a hand basket "loaded" with Red Bull Energy drinks.

Police were able to make contact with a witness who described seeing the man, as reported, at a bus stop trying to sell the Red Bull Energy drinks, according to the report. The witness told police he was last seen around Chapel Road.

Police immediately responded to Chapel Road and observed the man fitting the description crossing Rt. 252 toward the Wawa. According to the report, police called out to the man who was observed trying to stop the energy drinks from falling out of his jacket.

Upon further investigation, police discovered several frozen candy bars and a fruit cup on the man. The man, identified as a 30-year-old Philadelphia resident, was also found on a probation warrant.

Police were able to locate the basket of Red Bull Energy drinks in the grass, just north of the Wawa. The total amount of energy drinks stolen was $92.86. The total amount of stolen items from Wawa was $9.25

The man was arrested for two charges of retail theft. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 5 at 9 a.m. before Magisterial District Judge Leon Hunter.
