Police Remind Residents to Lock Car Doors

Recent thefts from unlocked vehicles have occurred around town.

NEWTOWN SQUARE– issued out a statement on Wednesday evening about recent thefts from vehicles that have occurred around town.

On Wednesday, Sept. 28, Newtown police received two reports of cars that had been ransacked overnight.

According to police, both vehicles had been left unlocked. The vehicles had been parked in the unit blocks of Mulberry Lane and Surrey Drive.

"One vehicle owner reported that approximately $20 was stolen from their vehicle; nothing was reported missing from the second vehicle," stated Lt. Christopher Lunn in the emailed statement.

Lunn said in many cases, the thefts occurred in vehicles with unlocked doors in which they were entered into and ransacked. Police continue to urge residents to lock their vehicles.

"The best practice is to lock your car and do not leave any valuables inside of the car," offered Lunn. "If valuables are left inside the car, make sure that they can’t be seen from outside of the car."
