Police Seek Public's Help in Nabbing Serial Drugstore Thief

Newtown police issued out a statement on Sept. 13, seeking the public's assistance in identifying a thief who has stolen from a few drugstore chain stores in the area.

NEWTOWN SQUARE– issued out a statement on Sept. 13, seeking the public's help on catching a thief who has committed thefts at the in Newtown Square, in Newtown Square and another CVS in Eattown Township.

Police said on Sept. 10 at approximately 2:18 pm, officers responded to the CVS Pharmacy located at 3930 West Chester Pike in Newtown Square for a reported theft of cigarettes. 

According to police, the manager of the store told police that a white male, approximately 23 years old, came in and asked for a lighter and two cartons of Newport Box cigarettes.

The man was seen putting the lighter in his pocket, while the clerk went to get the cigarettes. The man then produced an unknown driver's license showing a supposed birth date in 1988. 

Police said the clerk then handed two cartons of cigarettes to the man. The man then proceeds to act as though he is swiping his ATM card in the machine and also appears to enter a PIN number, said police. Soon after, the man leaves quickly from the store before the simulated transaction clears.

A store employee believes the man entered a white, older Toyota model with discolored, non-matching body panels which was left running during the time of this incident. Police said the direction of escape was unknown. 

The man has been described as a white male, approximately 23 years of age, wearing a tan ball cap with a brown “G” logo, jean shorts, black sneakers and a multi-colored, button-down shirt. In addition, the man had appeared to have two lip piercings on either side of his mouth.

Police are asking the public to view photos that were taken from the CVS surveillance camera to help identify the man. According to police, the man has committed additional thefts at the CVS in Easttown Township on Sept. 11 and again in Newtown Township on Sept. 12 at the Rite Aide.
