Shots Fired as AMC Movie Theater is Robbed

A security guard fired shots at a fleeing robber who police said stole $600.

A movie theater in Marple Township was robbed Friday by a man who police say fought with a security guard before shots were fired.

The robbery occurred around 11 p.m. Friday at the AMC Marple 10 Theater in the Marple Crossroads Shopping Center on South State Road in Marple Township, NBC said.

A man in his 20s stole $600 in a robbery that lasted mere seconds, ABC said. However, a security guard spotted the fleeing robber and chased him into the parking lot.

The robber managed to enter his car, which was described as four-door white sedan. NBC said the car might be a Nissan Altima, while ABC called it a Volkswagen.

ABC said the getaway driver showed a handgun, and the security guard fired shots at the fleeing vehicle.

The security guard struck the driver's side door of the vehicle, but it drove off at high speed toward Route 1, ABC said.

Marple Township Police Detective Barry Williams told ABC that the security guard took defensive action, and said that no one was injured.

The robber is described as a man in his 20s, about 6-foot-1. He wore a black zippered hoodie over a red T-shirt, NBC said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Marple Township Police at 610-356-1504.
