State Police Increase Patrols Over New Year's Holiday
The increased patrols will run from Dec. 31 to Jan. 2.
The Pennsylvania State Police will increase police patrols during the 2014 New Year's holiday enforcement period, from Dec. 31 through Jan. 2.
During this time, additional efforts will be made to ensure motorist safety, which includes a sobriety checkpoint to be held within the Troop K coverage area.
Troop K covers areas of Philadelphia, Montgomery and Delaware counties.

Troopers will be proactive in an effort to prevent DUI's and also ask that the public help with reporting suspected drunk drivers by calling 911.
During the 2013 New Year’s holiday weekend, troopers in Troop K investigated 45 crashes resulting in 13 injuries and no fatalities. Of those crashes, four were alcohol related. Troopers issued 469 citations, with 147 of that total being for speeding and 25 for seatbelt or child safety seat violations. Twelve drivers were arrested for DUI.

Results of Christmas Holiday Enforcement
Troop K investigated 55 crashes, which resulted in nine injuries and no fatalities during the enforcement period between Dec. 24 and 26.
Of those crashes, one was alcohol related.
Troopers in Troop K also issued 219 citations, with 36 of that total being for speeding, and 12 motorists were arrested for DUI.
