Thefts: Doghouse, Wires, Money From Soda Machine

The following information has been provided by the Newtown Township Police Department. Any arrests or charges mentioned do not indicate guilt or conviction.

NEWTOWN SQUARE–On May 31 at approximately 7:57 p.m., responded o the unit block of Clover Lane for a reported theft of a doghouse. Upon arrival, police spoke with the homeowner who told police that she discovered her doghouse had been stolen from her backyard and the last time she saw it was about three months ago, according to the police report. The doghouse was described as an igloo-like doghouse and valued at approximately $150. Police are further investigating this incident.

Man and Son Reportedly Seen Taking Scrap Metal

On May 25 at approximately 8 p.m., police responded to the parking lot of 3809 West Chester Pike for a reported theft in progress. An off-duty officer told police he had received a call from the property manager about a gray truck that was observed in the parking lot loading scrap metal from the dumpster. Upon arrival, police spoke with driver and son of the vehicle, who were in the process of returning the scrap metal from the bed of the truck back into the dumpster. The man told police that his friend from FedEx told him it was okay to come up there and take the metal from the dumpster, according to the report. Police are further investigating this incident before any charges or arrests are made.

Co-Pay Thefts From Doctor's Office

On May 25 at approximately 10:15 a.m., police responded to Prime Health Network at 4667 West Chester Pike for a report regarding a theft from an employee. Upon arrival, police spoke with the doctor concerning the recent thefts of co-pays in the past several weeks. According to the report, it was first brought to the doctor’s attention when a patient received a bill from Prime Health Network indicating he did not pay his $20 co-pay for his April 27th, 2012, visit. The doctor confirmed the patient did in fact provide the office with a co-pay after reviewing the daily sign-in log.

After speaking with several employees, the doctor was able to determine the batch print log was handled by an ex-employee who had just quit the office on May 23 for personal reasons. When anther employee asked the ex-employee about the missing money, the ex-employee replied that she had used it for gas and placed $5 back into the petty cash box. Later that day, she texted a co-worker saying she could not work anymore due to her recent surgery she had in April, but the ex-employee forgot to leave the office key, according to the report. Further investigation by the doctor revealed that there was missing co-pay cash from a couple different weekly deposits. On May 4th, the office discovered $53 missing and on May 11, $45 was also unaccounted for. Police are further investigating this incident.

Approx. $40 Stolen From Soda Machine

On May 22 at approximately 8:40 a.m., police responded to on 3710 West Chester Pike for a reported theft from the soda machine, which occurred sometime overnight. The actor(s) used a blunt object to pry apart the soda machine, according to the report. Approximately $40 was removed from the machine but change was left behind. Police are further investigating this incident.

$800 Worth of Wires Stolen From Truck

On May 21 at approximately 11:05 a.m., police received a report from a resident on the 3600 block of Winding Way for a reported theft. According to the report, the man reported that sometime over the last two weeks someone had entered his utility truck that was parked on the property, who had removed five spools of low-voltage wire as well as 700-800 feet of Romex wire. The estimated value of stolen wire is $800. Police are further investigating this incident.
