Thieves Hide Stolen Items in Separate Retail Thefts, Police Say

A man puts a more expensive item into a box marked on sale in a Home Depot theft, police say.

The following information was supplied by Marple Township Police. Any arrests or charges mentioned do not indicate guilt or conviction.

 

Retail Theft—Walmart 400 S. State Road in Springfield at 5:55 p.m. on April 19—Police were dispatched to the store for a report of a man and woman, with a young child, who had left the store after taking merchandise and drove off in a black Chevrolet, according to the report. As police arrived, they were notified that the man was back in the store in the foyer area and police brought the man in to a Walmart security office, according to the report. Store security told police that the man paid for an iPad in the electronics department and then he and the woman placed more items in the bags from the electronics and apparel departments, according to the report. They then left the store without paying for the additional items and the woman fled the scene, according to the report. The stolen merchandise was recovered and valued at $480.27, according to the report.

Retail Theft—Home Depot 700 Reed Road in Broomall at 9:37 a.m. on April 15—Police spoke to store loss prevention officer who advised them that he observed a man removing two drill bits from their packaging and placed them into his front left pants pocket, according to the report. The Broomall man was then seen taking an on-sale light fixture off of the shelf, removed the fixture from the packaging and then placed a more expensive door knob lock set into the light fixture box and re-sealed the box, according to the report. The Broomall man then proceeded to the cash registers where he paid for several other items in his cart but failed to pay for the above listed items, according to the report. The loss prevention officer contacted the man in the vestibule of the store and the man turned over the stolen items, which were valued at $141.94 and he was detained, according to the report. Police transported the man to police headquarters and he was issued a non-traffic citation and was advised not to return to Home Depot, according to the report.
