Wallets Stolen from Shoppers, Police Say

Wallets and credit cards are stolen while people shop in local stores, police say.

Wallets and credit cards were recently stolen from shoppers in Marple Township, according to Marple Police.

On Nov. 7, a woman told police that someone removed two credit/debit cards from her purse while she was shopping at several local stores in Marple Township, according to police.

The woman was able to cancel one card prior to any fraudulent charges being made but a few hundred dollars was fraudulently charged to a second card, according to police.

In a separate incident on Nov. 9, a woman was shopping at Walmart at 400 S. State Road in Springfield for about an hour and after filling her cart and heading to the check out, she realized her wallet was missing from her purse, according to police.

All of her identification, debit/credit cards, cash and her spare key to her car were inside the wallet, according to police.

The woman later received a call from Wells Fargo reporting irregular activity on her card at numerous locations, including JC Penney and a Sears charge of $324.97, at the Granite Run Mall, according to police.

Police were able to obtain surveillance video from both Walmart and Sears and Sears was able to locate the sale on video, based on the time the credit card charges were made, according to police.

A heavy set black woman with blonde hair, wearing a tan jacket, was seen on the video purchasing three pairs of jeans, four gift cards for Outback and four gift cards for Ruby Tuesday, according to police.

The investigation continues.
