Warmer Weather Brings Multiple Burglaries to Area

Newtown police ask residents to report any suspicious activity as several daytime burglaries in neighboring townships have recently occurred.

As the temperature rises, it appears that home burglaries and thefts increase as well. Sgt. Chris Lunn of the sent out an email early Friday morning alerting residents of recent burglaries that have occurred in neighboring townships.

According to Lunn, the Willistown and Nether Providence police departments are investigating a few home burglaries that have occurred in each of their townships.

"The Willistown Township Police Department, our neighbors on Goshen Road, is investigating two daytime burglaries that occurred in the last week," stated Lunn in the email.

Lunn said one house was entered by force through the front door and cash and jewelry were stolen. Although the home appeared to have an alarm system with a sign posted at the residence, the actor(s) cut the phone lines just in case, which prevents an alarm system from calling out to report the alarm activation, according to Lunn.

The second home in Willistown was entered through an unlocked front door and jewelry and electronics were stolen in this incident. One tip was received from a neighbor during the time of this burglary.

Jewelry and electronics were stolen in this incident.

Lunn warns residents to be on alert and to be aware of their surroundings, especially as summer break hits.

"With school soon to be out for the summer, families will be taking vacations and be away from their homes for extended periods of time," said Lunn. "Keep an eye on your friends and neighbors' homes, and report any suspicious people or activity by dialing 911 immediately."
