BROOMALL–The Marple Township Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a payment of $168,031.35 to G. Antonini Construction for work to date on the township’s 2012 Road Program.
The program included work on Reed Road and Park Way, Hamaday told Patch. The original estimate for the road program was $230,439.50, but the total cost was reduced to $168,031.35, after the township decided to reduce the scope of the work, Hamaday said.
Paper Recycling Agreement
The commissioners also authorized township officials to enter into a three-year agreement with Newman & Company Inc., for the collection and disposal of non-single stream paper recyclable material in the township.
The commission’s vote to approve the agreement was unanimous. Newman & Co. will be recycling excess paper and cardboard which residents drop off at the bin at the old Marple grade school, Hamaday told Patch.
Single-stream recycling (paper, glass, aluminum and plastic), which is picked up curbside from residents’ homes is contracted by Blue Mountain, LLC, Hamaday said.
Under the agreement with Newman, Marple Township receives $10 per ton of paper recyclable material if Newman retrieves the material from the old Marple grade school, or between $21 and $60 per ton if the township delivers the recyclables to Newman’s facility in Philadelphia, Hamaday said.
“Typically, we’ve been getting $60 a ton,” for delivering the recyclables to Newman, Hamaday said.
Tree Purchase Approved
Commissioners unanimously approved the purchase of 10 bare root trees from the TreeVitalize program in the amount of $500, payable to the Tree Commission's escrow account.
The trees will be planted in township parks, but township officials have not yet developed a plan to determine which parks will receive the trees, Hamaday said.
The placement of the trees is subject to the approval of the director of public works and the parks supervisor, according to the motion which the commission approved.
State Aid Allocations
The commissioners also voted unanimously to allocate distribution from the State Aide Allocation for the:
- Police Pension Plan, $291,061
- Municipal Employees’ Pension Plan $148,801
- Broomall Fire Company $145,860
- Marple Township Ambulance Corps $48,620
