Commissioners Vote Against DCCC's Request To Construct Pole Barn

Marple Township Board of Commissioners passed on a motion, May 14, to approve Delaware County Community College's request to build a pole barn on the school's campus.

BROOMALL–The Board of Commissioners decided not to pass a motion at a May 14th meeting to approve the as requested by Delaware County Community College, reports The Delco News Network.

The college sought a waiver request to construct a pole barn, a non-residential accessory structure, behind the tennis courts on campus to store old equipment in which the college is not away to throw out.

Township Manager Anthony Hamaday . However, a few commissioners voiced the disapproval for the request due to college's failed promises from a previous project with the 105,000 square-foot STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Center on its campus.

The college had promised to include landscaping buffers between the school and the homes nearby when the $60 million STEM Center application was approved. According to 5th Ward Commissioner John Longacre, the school responded that they had no money when the township requested for a more adequate buffer between the school and its residential neighbors.

"So, where are they getting the money for the pole barn?" asked Longacre to Hamaday at the meeting earlier this month. "The neighbors want a nice fence, not cheap stuff. Tell him, 'no way' until the neighbors get what they were promised from the last project."

In addition, 2nd Ward Commissioner and Marple Historic Society liaison Jan Ceton, shared his concern at the work session meeting that the school had also planned to demolish the only to erect another storage barn.
