Couple Recognized For Taking Care of Golden Chain Tree

Lee and Gus Latesta were recently recognized at a Marple Township Board of Commissioners meeting for their care of a Golden Chain Tree on their property on Dogwood Lane in Broomall.

BROOMALL–The Marple Tree Commission named the Golden Chain Tree this year’s distinguished tree and honored Lee and Gus Latesta for caring for a Golden Chain Tree on the property of their Dogwood Lane home.

Rick Ray, Marple Tree Commission chairman, presented Lee Latesta and Gus Latesta with the award during Board of Commissioners meeting on June 11.

The tree on the Latestas’ property is unusual in that it has lived for more than 60 years, Ray said. Most Golden Chain trees, which look similar to a Black Locust tree except that its flowers are yellow, have a tendency to fall over and therefore do not live for long, Ray said.
