Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission Seeks Task Force Members

Applications will be accepted through March 1 for the DVRPC's new Public Participation Task Force.

The Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission (DVRPC), as part of its ongoing efforts to engage citizens of the Delaware Valley, is establishing a new Public Participation Task Force to ensure the involvement of a diverse range of our region’s residents in the planning process.

The mission of the task force is to provide ongoing access to the regional planning and decision-making process, to review timely issues, to serve as a conduit for the DVRPC information to organizations and communities across the region, and to assist the Commission in implementing public outreach strategies.

The DVRPC board will select 12 task force members representing each county (Bucks, Montgomery, Chester, Delaware, Philadelphia, Camden, Burlington, Gloucester, and Mercer) and core cities (Chester, Trenton, and Camden) represented by the DVRPC. The remaining 12 at-large members will be selected through an application process that will run through March 1.

The DVRPC is seeking applicants with an interest in planning, knowledge of regional issues, a history of civic engagement, and effective communication skills. Task force membership will also strive to reflect the region’s geographic, ethnic, cultural, and economic diversity.

Individuals interested in serving as members of the Task Force must submit an application outlining their qualifications and experience by March 1, 2012. Applications will be made available to the public at libraries throughout the region as well as online here.

Throughout its history, the DVRPC has strived to engage as many citizens as possible in the regional planning process. The Public Participation Task Force is the latest example of the DVRPC continually seeking new and meaningful ways of involving the public in the decision-making process. The DVRPC’s Public Participation Plan is designed as a resource for the DVRPC’s Board, staff, and the general public to better understand the Commission’s overall public participation strategy and procedures, as well as the federal mandates that inform the DVRPC’s public participation efforts.
