Finger Amputations Prompt Stroller Recall

A stroller sold in stores and online since 2006 is a risk for finger injury.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued a recall on Contours Options three- and four-wheeled strollers, citing a potential for lost fingers.

According to a release from the commission, a person’s finger can become caught in the opening formed when locking and unlocking the hinge mechanism, which is used to adjust the handlebars on the strollers.

“This presents an amputation and laceration hazard to children and the adults handling the stroller,” the commission stated in a release.

According to reports, the commission has received five reports of injuries involving the hinge mechanism, including reports of three children whose fingertips were amputated and two adults whose fingers were either smashed or lacerated.

The strollers have been sold at “juvenile product specialty stores nationwide and online at Amazon.com, Target.com and ToysRUs.com” since 2006, the report says.
