On the issue: “It is unfortunate that some in Washington have chosen to continue putting partisan gamesmanship ahead of the economic needs of our country. Government spending must be cut and the deficit must be reduced. However, this should be done through shared sacrifice—not on the backs of those who could least afford it. Powerful special interests should not be exempt while Medicare and working Pennsylvanians are targeted."

To get in touch with U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey (R), here's what to do:

- Call his Washington office at 202-224-4254
- Call his local office at 215-241-1090
- Send him an email here by filling out a form.

On the issue: "I am extremely disappointed that President Obama and the Democrat leadership have chosen to engage in demagoguery and political scare tactics instead of engaging Congress in a solution that will actually solve our increasingly dangerous debt problem. Over the course of the next week, I urge the president to work with Congress to find a solution that puts our federal government on a path to a balanced budget and helps drive economic growth."

Toomey on Tuesday held a news conference on Capitol Hill to promote a bill that would set short-term spending priorities in the event the debt ceiling issue is not resolved by August 2.

Here's how to get in touch with Rep. Pat Meehan (R-7), whose district covers both and townships:

- Call his Washington office at (202) 225-2011
- Call his local office (in Springfield) at (610) 690-7323
- Send him an email here after you fill out the appropriate information.

On the issue: "“I’m hearing from my constituents that they–like me–want to see both sides come together and reach a responsible solution without risking a default or jeopardizing our economy. Right now Congress is focused on a two-step process to prevent default by cutting spending by a greater number than lifting the debt limit, followed by a detailed process to tackle the longer-term spending challenges we know are upon us. I think that can pass the Congress. What has been frustrating is that some of our negotiating partners have for a long time refused to put forth a specific plan of their own, making meaningful negotiations and compromise difficult. Regardless, I believe Congress and the President will come to a resolution, and that’s where I’m focused and committed."
