John Nawn Appointed to Vice Chair Seat on Newtown Planning Commission

Recently reappointed member to the Newtown Planning Commission, John Nawn was unanimously appointed as vice chairman on July 14.

NEWTOWN SQUARE–Although there weren't any applications or plans to specifically cover on the agenda, the was able to check off an item on their 'to-do' list on Thursday night–to fill the vacant vice chairman seat.

John Nawn, a former member of the Planning Commission, was recently reappointed to the Commission at a Board of Supervisors meeting on June 14. After his reappointment, Nawn commented to Patch that he was "glad to be back."

On Thursday evening's meeting, planning member Curtis Silva made a motion to appoint Nawn as vice chairman and was seconded by planning member Jim Stefanidis. The motion carried unanimously.

The seat, which was formerly occupied by Mike Trio, , has been vacant since June 14 when he to occupy his current seat.

Nawn previously served on the Commission from 2006-2010. He was not reappointed by the Board of Supervisors at that time.

A few major land developments that Nawn expects to handle in the future while serving as vice chairman of the Planning Commission are the empty spaces on the Olde Masters Golf Course and the vacant lot next to .

"They're the two bigger vacant properties in town that we have to figure out what's going to be there in the future," shared Nawn.

Some other properties he's keeping his eye on for future redevelopment are the Newtown Square Shopping Center and the strip mall that includes , and C off of West Chester Pike.

Nawn was named Engineer of the Year by Pennsylvania Society of Professional Engineers (Delaware County Chapter) earlier this year and is currently the vice president of KSE Engineers in Philadelphia.

He holds a civil engineering degree from Drexel University and is licensed to practice engineering in seven states. Nawn was one of the first engineers to become certified internationally as a Professional Traffic Operations Engineer.

He also currently serves as a municipal traffic consultant for the Borough of Narberth in Montomery County.
