Letter of Recommendation to Terminate Newtown Police Chief Issued

A letter of recommendation to terminate Newtown Township Police Chief Dennis Anderson was sent out last week, according to Township Manager Mike Trio.

NEWTOWN SQUARE– Supervisors Chairman Joe Catania confirmed through email on Sunday that an additional disciplinary letter has been issued to Chief Dennis Anderson after further investigation made by Township Manager Mike Trio.

Trio informed Marple Newtown Patch on Monday that the disciplinary letter was a recommendation for termination. However, Trio explained that Anderson cannot be terminated until the Board of Supervisors take action on the recommendation.

According to Trio, the letter was sent out late last week. Anderson was suspended from May 22 to June 22 with pay. Anderson's annual salary is $100,000. Since then, Trio said Anderson has been on administrative leave until the hearing.

The hearing, in which Anderson has requested to be public,. Trio explained both parties involved were unable to agree on a rescheduled date but assured the new date for the hearing will be posted on the township website.

Anderson may be able to respond to the letters and address the issues stated during the public hearing, said Trio.

. But Trio said more than one issue was brought to his attention about Anderson.

"We are trying everything we can do to bring this to a fair conclusion," said Trio.

Maybe we should get rid of all of these supervisors as well. How dare they act on issues without informing the taxpayers!!!

I agree that an important situation like this needs public scrutiny. They are elected officials and he is a high profile township paid employee. LET THE SUNSHINE IN!!

This is very concerning. It seems that NOTHING has changed in NEWTOWN POLITICS! it's the same leadership - gillin - Pund - Catania - now the township has a bunch of pawns as supervisors in lambert, partridge, wood and nawn. This township needs some major HELP! BSDETECTOR hit it right on the nose! Newtown is starting to look and act like DARBY politics! I read in a previous post somewhere about Catania having a county job now. IS THERE TRUTH TO THAT?

Everybody settle down. Newtown Township will never be a Darby Borough. However it came close when Linda (Paula Brown) Houldin went after Lee (Robert Smythe) Hunter, shades of Darby Borough! Then Linda would just lie to the public, promise to show up at important meetings and then just fail to show. My favorite memory was when she promised to be near the phone for a meeting, but Jim Sheldrake just couldn't seem to reach her when the time came. She and Jim disrespected the entire community. Do you see that happening with the current board....no. The current board is handling this Anderson matter very professionally. I have it from a good source that Anderson is actually the one who wants to play it out to the media (he called fox 29 news), so don't blame the board of directors, blame the guy Linda hired..Dennis Anderson. signed, Dr. Patchy McPatch, MD.

Truth be told everything has changed and this township IS getting help from the current Board. Perhaps all should be reminded of the ineptness (to be kind) and puppeteering of the previous powers in control of Newtown Township and the damage that was wreaked on the residents and taxpayers. It takes time and some pain to correct and repair the harm done. The Chief was hired from outside and controlled by those in power at the time. He does not have the support of the men that he was supposed to command in a fair and objective fashion - so it is time to go. The fine officers of this township are dedicated and unquestionably there 24/7 for all the residents and business owners! The officers deserve a Chief who commands their respect and support. We will all benefit!

Still haven't gotten an answer on what the Chief did to even put him on suspension. Can anybody answer that? It just feels shady to me all around. Patchy...how could Anderson play it out in the media when he wasn't the one who contacted the media in the first place? Obviously, you don't know Dennis personally, because he is a good man. Boo hoo, you dont't like your boss....welcome to the real world!

The supervisors will do whatever they want, pat anyone who has a different idea or plan on the head and send them on their way, and blow sunshine up the public's butt until we elect a board intent on truly serving in the best interest of the community!

Everybody should calm down, the transgressions haven't even started to come out and this forum serves absolutely nobody! Be patient , It's all about timing! These posts are a way for cowards to flex there muscles without feeling the wrath of the real powers! The real end game hasn't even started yet! It doesn't matter who is on the board or chief! Once the end game begins, The rest will fall like dominos.

How do you know that 19073. You should also watch yourself for libel. There's not ONE thing on this forum where anything was brought up about Chief Anderson and what he supposedly has done. You know something? Tell us. Name ONE thing.
Jim August 02, 2012 at 12:16 AM
Wow It's hard to believe that no one in the township knows anything about what the chief has alledgedly done, but there is a letter of termination issued. Maybe the problem is not with the chief at all.
Buca0630 August 02, 2012 at 01:35 AM
You got it Jim. No one on here, no one anywhere will say or post what the problems with the chief is. Why?

I am a Haverford Twp. Resident and previous neighbor of Dennis Anderson. He is a good man and was a dedicated lieutenant on our police force. I personally can't believe he could have done anything warranting release from job. I was disappointed when he left our township and would be pleased to have him back.
MerionManor August 13, 2012 at 01:49 PM
The problem is not with the chief. I too am a resident of Havertown and have known Mr. Anderson, this whole thing seems fishy. Personally, I feel it is just Newtown Politics.

Fishy isn't the word for it. Oh, they will come up with some rediculous accusation that it has taken them 3 months to scrape together. Those making the accusations better be "Squeaky" clean. I wonder who gave Mr. Trio the order to submit the recomendation letter to fire Chief Anderson? Let me guess. . .
