Marple's Tree Commission Launches New Website

Marple Township's Tree Commission announced their new website, 91 new trees planted in the townships' parks, and number of volunteers have grown.

BROOMALL–'s Tree Commission announced the launch of their new website–www.marpletreecommission.com–at a Board of Commissioners work session meeting on Monday night.

Liz Ball, secretary of the Tree Commission, said the website is still a "work in progress" but residents will be able to find information on caring for trees, Marple's special trees, future workshops and events, and how to get involved.

According to Ball, the commission has planted 91 new trees in the township's parks and have ordered 10 more new trees.

"[We're] not ordering as many since we're filling up the parks," said Ball. She also assured all the planted trees are checked on regularly.

Ball said the commission has added four new associate members and the number of tree volunteers have also increased to approximately 109 members. But, Ball said the commission is still looking for more members to volunteer with tree planting.

In addition, Ball said the commission is currently working on a pilot program that will offer residents in Marple Township an opportunity for the commission to plant trees on residential properties for a fee.

The township has been a member of Tree City USA–a program sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation–since 2006. Ball announced this year's Arbor Day celebration will take place at the off of Ann Road in Broomall on April 27.

Residents can participate in a free workshop. The next workshop available is on March 6, in which members of the Tree Commission will present "Yardening: Understanding and Caring for Your Landscape" at the from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.
