Marple Zoning Hearing Board Approves More Parking at Chesterbrook Academy

The Marple Zoning Hearing Board approved the application of Parker Pavement, Inc., at a meeting on May 18.

BROOMALL–The Marple Zoning Hearing Board approved a variance on its Wednesday night meeting that will permit four more parking spaces at Chesterbrook Academy, provided that certain guidelines are followed.

David Parker, of Parker Pavement, Inc., the company contracted to install the parking spaces, requested a variance for an additional 2 percent of impervious coverage at the Chesterbrook Academy property on 906 S. Media Line Rd.

Chesterbrook currently has 23 parking spaces for its 70 teachers and 135 students. Parents are required to sign in their students at the beginning of the school day, so parking is difficult at peak hours, and the 23 spots are usually occupied during the day, Parker said.

Parker said the intention is not to touch the neighbors’ property, but also noted that some trees will need to be removed.

Several members of the Zoning Hearing Board expressed concerns as to whether even with the additional spaces, there would be enough space to ease congestion problems.

“I don’t know if the amount of parking spaces you’re asking for will be adequate,” board member Walter Pierzchala said.

After an executive session, the board ultimately approved the variance, provided that there is no additional impervious coverage created through construction above the existing 23,000 feet.
