Molinaro Reappointed to Lead Commissioners in 2013
Sixth Ward Marple Commissioner Michael Molinaro will serve as president of the Marple Township Board of Commissioners and Fourth Ward Commissioner John Lucas will serve as vice president in 2013.
BROOMALL–The Marple Township Board of Commissioners reappointed 6th Ward Commissioner Michael Molinaro president of the board and 4th Ward Commissioner John Lucas as vice president at a reorganization meeting on Monday night.
Both commissioners were the only candidates nominated for president and vice president, respectively, and both were reappointed with a 6-0 vote. Seventh Ward Commissioner Daniel Leefson was absent from the meeting because he was out of town.
Molinaro’s list was long when the Marple Newtown Patch asked him what his goals would be for the new term.

Molinaro said he wants to continue to provide the first-class services that are currently being provided to the residents, and “to continue to provide low taxes.”
The commission approved a zero percent tax increase for both 2013 and 2011, and a 1.8 percent tax increase for 2012, Molinaro said.

Molinaro said his other goals are to increase recycling efforts; to have Marple continue sharing services and resources with other municipalities; finish renovations to the Marple Township Muncipal Building; and continue exploring ideas for updating township facilities such as the fire station and the old Marple school property.
As the reappointed vice president, Lucas said his goal for this term would be the same as it was last year: to “work with this full board toward township issues to make sure all township issues are addressed.”
In addition to serving as vice president of the Marple Township Board of Commissioners, Lucas is also president of the Pennsylvania State Association of Township Commissioners, which is comprised of all of Pennsylvania’s first-class townships.
During the reorganization meeting, the Marple Township Board of Commissioners also made several other appointments.
These included the one-year reappointments of Anthony Hamaday as township manager, Sharon Angelaccio as township secretary, and J. Adam Matlawski of McNichol, Byrne & Matlawski PC, as township solicitor.
The board also reappointed, for one-year terms, Joseph Mastronardo of Pennoni Associates as township engineer; Dr. Michael Baio as police surgeon; James Capuzzi as fire marshal; Brian Drager Jr. as assistant fire marshal; Township Commissioner Jan Ceton as emergency management coordinator; and Karen Standen and Jim Castaldi as deputy emergency management coordinators.
