A countywide moment of silence will be held on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. for victims of Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.

MEDIA–Delaware County Council, the District Attorney and the President Judge invite Delaware County schools, municipalities, churches, businesses and residents to pause at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, for a moment of silence to honor the victims of the tragic act of violence at Sandy Hook Elementary School in the New England town of Newtown, Connecticut, announced the county on Tuesday.

Marple Newtown teachers and staff will pause at 9:30 a.m. for a moment of silence with their students. According to Superintendent Merle Horowitz, teachers have been informed to tell their students: “We are having a moment of silence to think about all of the good things that we have in our lives and honor the memory of those who are not as fortunate.”

Horowitz will represent the Marple Newtown School District community at the county courthouse in Media Wednesday morning.

Members of the Delaware County community, wherever they may be at that time, are invited to pause and join in a countywide moment of remembrance, to mourn the victims and to honor our nation’s teachers and emergency responders.
