Sokorai said the decision to leave the school board after many years of serving was "tough."
"It was a very difficult thing to do," said Sokorai. Sokorai's decision was mainly based on personal reasons and mentioned his two daughters (ages 9 and 3), who are heavily involved in school and sports activities, and spending more time with them.
"It's just a lot," said Sokorai, who currently serves as the since last year.
But Sokorai took pride in the amount of work that had been accomplished with the members of the Marple Newtown Board of School Directors during his time with them.
"We accomplished a lot with the school board–we really did. We had a good run," said Sokorai. Though he can't tell you what his favorite moment was on the school board, Sokorai was able to share what his favorite accomplishment was.
"It has to be facilities. I mean, the facilities were in such disarray when we started the process and at the end of this year we'll get a new high school, new admin building, we saved the community center, and we have a maintenance plan for all our roofs–except one–will be under warranty now. We have a plan and a program now," shared Sokorai. "There are so many different things we did over the years but I'd like to say that was a big accomplishment."
The Marple Newtown Board of School Directors will meet on Tuesday, June 26, at 6:45 p.m. in the Board Room of the Administration Building for a special meeting to conduct interviews for candidates to fill the vacancy of Sokorai's seat.
