New Beatty Hill Sewer Pump System In the Works

Springfield commissioners approved an ordinance in partnership with Marple Township to create a new grinder pump sanitary sewer system in the Beatty Hills area, although some residents oppose the project.

SPRINGFIELD–An ordinance to create a new pressure grinder pump sanitary sewer system in the Beatty Hills area by was approved by Springfield Township at first reading, although some residents oppose the project.

Collins Drive resident Donald DiBello approached in October with a letter opposing the project. He said the joint project between Sprinfield and Marple townships doesn't work as well as the current system and it doesn't operate when the power is out.

Seventh Ward Commissioner Daniel Lanciano said the township will continue to move forward with the project, noting a $275,000 grant available to offset costs.

Lanciano said he and Township Manager Lee Fulton have met with Marple Township officials numerous times to discuss the project and "it makes sense to do it."

"We're going to go through with it," he said.

"We don't need it, we don't want it, and both townships have more pressing issues to deal with," DiBello said. Read the full letter in the PDF attachment.
