Newtown Updates: $10,000 Reimbursement From PEMA, New Municipal Authority Members Appointed

Newtown Township Manager Mike Trio provided township updates to the Board of Supervisors at a meeting on Feb. 27.

Two Residents Appointed to Municipal Authority

The supervisors also approved the appointment of two Newtown residents to the Municipal Authority. Larry Fischer and Linda Gabbell will fill the recent vacant seats of Jack Lear and Raymond Lopez, respectively.

Lopez, president of the Homeowner's Association of Springton Pointe Estates, was on the authority.

Lopez was then appointed to chairman–replacing member in the interim after former chairman Bob Jackson's resignation–at the January reorganization meeting but resigned soon after.

In addition, Lear, the authority's treasurer for a few years, also recently resigned which left two vacant seats on the board.

County Liquid Fuels Money Requested For Township Road Resurfacing

The supervisors approved a county aid resolution, which requests $17,955 from the county's liquid fuels funding for the township's 2012 road improvement project.

"This is an annual request we make to county council for monies they make available to assist the municipalities for the resurfacing of streets," stated the .

According to Nelson, the township has a yearly allocation request of $17,955. The money is requested for the 2012 road improvement project or any "subsequent year you choose to use the money," said Nelson.
