Plans to Complete Highland Avenue Hockey Rink Before July

Marple Township has until June 30 to complete the renovations to the hockey rink at Highland Avenue Park.

BROOMALL–The hockey/roller rink at the park off of in Broomall will see a facelift sooner than later and by sooner, absolutely before June 30.

The pressure to get the renovations going on the rink is on as the grant received by the state that will fund the rink project will run out by June 30.

According to Marple Township Manager Anthony Hamaday, the project was intially scheduled to be completed earlier but due to the inclement weather over the winter, the grant has been extended.

"We want to get it moving now that we're out of the winter months," said Hamaday.

The current rink is currently unusable and sits at the park without any walls to surround the playing area.

Hamaday said the rink is under state contract and the township is currently working to order a new rink to replace the dilapidated one at Highland Avenue. The rink will be installed by a contractor, said Hamaday.

Although the rink is only one portion of Highland Avenue park, the renovation project goes beyond the rink and includes other parts of the park including the tennis ball wall and a basketball court.

Other aspects also include, "handicap accessibility, drainage work, and paving," said Hamaday.
