State Rep. Hackett Will Not Run for State Senate

Hackett says he will stay on the ballot for the 161st District.

The following was provided to Patch:

Representative Joe Hackett’s Campaign Director, Matthew Illich, announced today that after much thought and careful consideration State Representative Joe Hackett has decided not to run for the State Senate in 2014. Representative Hackett supports the Delaware County Republican Party’s recommendation for the 26th Senatorial District race, County Council Chairman Tom McGarrigle.

Representative Hackett has also chosen not to challenge McGarrigle in the 2014 Primary Election.

“It’s no secret that Senator Erickson’s shoes will be hard to fill,” said Hackett. “I consider Tom McGarrigle a personal friend and excellent businessman; he will be the true voice of our neighbors.”

Since Erickson’s announcement, Representative Hackett received an overwhelming response from family, friends and loyal constituents voicing their encouragement to run for Senate in 2014. Hackett has received calls and emails from across the commonwealth pledging their support.  Particularly heartening, were calls from Hackett’s supporters in small businesses, unions, and his extended law enforcement family.

“It is my intention to turn my efforts and energy with great focus on the issues at hand. I anticipate being on the ballot for re-election to the House of Representatives, serving 161st District of Pennsylvania,” said Hackett. “It is a challenging and rewarding job that I enjoy. My sincerest thanks to all involved.”
