Supervisors Recognize Long-Time Road Master

Newtown Township Board of Supervisors recognized the retirement of Road Master Charles Steinmentz on Dec. 12.

NEWTOWN SQUARE–At a Board of Supervisors meeting on Monday night, all supervisors were present to declare Dec. 12th as 'Charlie Stemetz Day.'

Charlie Steinmetz, who was not present at Monday night's meeting, is a 45-year township employee and retired on Dec. 2. 

A proclamation was read by Supervisor Dr. Ross Lambert for Steinmetz's years of dedicated service to the township. Steinmetz served as Road Master for the township for 10 years of his 44 years in the Public Works Department.

"Whereas, Charlie Steinmetz was instrumental in the Newtown Township Public Works Department, providing a continuance of quality service to the citizens of Newtown Township," read Lambert. "And, whereas, during his tenure in Newtown Township, his leadership brought many valuable services to the , community service organizatons and new roadway and park facilities in the township."

In addition, Lambert stated Steinmetz was instrumental in the work safety practices with the employees in the township.

Lambert made a motion to approve the proclamation and seconded by Houldin. The approval of the proclamation brought the supervisors to their feet in a standing ovation of appreciation.

"Charlie's [Steinmetz] been here a long time and if you met him, you know he's a great guy and his services here will be missed," said Sueprvisors Chairman Joseph Catania.

In the meantime Karl Baumeister, a public works employee, will be the acting department head.
